I believe a special order is one that is ordered by a customer and not a dealership.

Mine says that too. I believe it's on all trucks that were customer orders as opposed to dealer orders for stock.

I stopped by my dealer yesterday to talk with my sales rep. He wanted me to see th GM who started by apologizing for how long it is taking for my truck to hit production. Seems I'm not his only customer that is dealing with an extended wait.
He told me the delay has something to do with allocation and customer ordered trucks seem to be getting a lower priority. My order was accepted May 25 and it's just sitting in a computer with no VIN.

Can someone with experience chime in and verify? I can't figure out why Ford would put a sold truck ( I'm pre approved and ready to hand them a check for crying out loud)below a dealer stock truck that's gonna sit on a lot for weeks waiting for someone to buy it.

Do you have a copy of the order sheet? If so there's a priority code listed. 10 is the lowest score but highest priority 99 highest score but lowest priority. The dealer inputs the code when you order. Curious what your code is.
For an example mine order priority is 19. My truck hit production a week after I ordered and the build date is 2 weeks after.

Also along with priority Ford sets a limit to how many trucks a dealer can have built in one week based on the amount they sell. If your dealer is small and doesn't sell many that may be hurting you too.

My priority code is an 11. Yes it a small dealer here but they have a second dealership they partner with that is huge. Very frustrating! The wait is killing me. Feels like I'm an eight year old kid stuck in a perpetual Christmas Eve loop!

There's a thread that explains allocation and priority codes in great detail. The Priority Code really makes no difference except for the dealer, mine could put in 99 and yours 10 and mine might get built before yours.

Only time it makes a big difference is if it's below 10 which is only done by a Ford Rep.

Allocation gets tricky, if your dealer ha already used their allocations, you are pretty much hosed until they get more which could be the next month.
