Default yet another problem....

alright so i have now replaced the alternator and battery both and i have a brand new positive cable for the battery...i drove it yesterday and it was driving fine other than when i would put it in reverse or drive or turned the turn signals on the radio would cut out....and everytime i turned the truck off and then turned it back on the radio would shut off and reset itself....so i was thinking a short in the collem....but then i went to drive it this morning and i had my fog lights on and my headlights and it totally shut off my radio....and then i started losing power in the gas pedal....so i turn the lights off and drove it back home and it drove fine....it seems like the alternator but i literally just replaced it....sorry for the long post but any suggestions other than a bad new alternator???

possibly wrong amperage in the alternator? maybe the new one is too weak

My alternator wires melted a few times.

yeah maybe ill just have to check and see if i can get a high amp alt....ill also check out my wiring....if its not one thing with my truck its another lol....well if anyone else has any suggestions just let me know

I'm thinking again... Sounds like a loose connection.
Since you recently replaced the Alternator, Battery & Positive battery cable;
I would look at those areas first.

It's probably not in the steering column, since it did it when the lights were turned on.

You may want to fully recharge your new battery after you tighten the loose connection or repair a broken wire.

(Connect a Volt Meter to the battery while engine is idling to determine
if Alternator is working or not - it should read 13-14 Volts)

As long as your new Alternator is producing 12-14 Volts electricity,
that is all any stock alternator is designed to do.

Let us know what you find!

so i took my alt to oreillys and it test out bad...so i warrentied it out and got a new one and i had my battery completely recharges....i hooked up everything again and my voltmeter is still only reading 11 and my radio keeps cutting out when i put it in gear or turn my lights on....so im guessing there is something wrong with the wiring...all the wires look fine but does anyone have a pic or a wiring chart of where the wires need to go?? Maybe something has came loose that i didnt notice...or possibly anyone have any other suggestion??

I've had troubles like that. Battery didn't hold a good charge when running. N here's what you do.

1. Start it, let it run
2. Get a digital voltometer set it to 20 on dc
3. Get the volt reading while still running (you said it was 11)
4. Get a piece of wire or jumper cables and attach one side of the wire to the negative post on the battery. Touch the other end of the wire you connected to the negative post on your battery to anything metal. Of course this works best when you have the voltometer hooked up to the battery.
5. If when you touch the wire from the negative post makes the volt output from the battery increase, you need to mount another ground wire from the battery to some place with clean metal.

It a really cheap fix. Should work. If you don't have a digital voltometer you can pick one up for cheap. I got one at meijer for $15

alright cool thanks a lot!!!! I work at oreillys so ill pick one up today and try it out after i get off work! Thanks again hopefully this solves my problem

It worked on mine - ran an extra ground from the negative battery post to one of the bolts on the throttle body. Cured all sorts of silliness.

Your welcome. Hope it works for you. If it doesn't work, that it only part of the voltometer test. But that's usually the problem. Either that or battery post connectors are too corroded.
