If you've got the time and money... might as well while you're in there. Other wise... send it!

Just found out the Eastwood paint I was going to use for the rear axle is on backorder until mid March . Got it all cleaned up today. Just need to order some seals and brakes.

Thanks guys and yep that's the dirty 60... my hands hurt from using the angle grinder for two straight days lol. Once I get the paint in, it'll be painted ASAP! And I had to go with the wife's choice..... it's gunna be flat black! I was leaning towards gloss cz it cleans easy but you guys and the the wife convinced me to stay flat black.

Looks like a lot of time went into that.

For any areas that the rust was stubborn, I'd hit it with a rust-converting primer like Rust Reformer. I'd actually shoot the whole thing with it. Why an Eastwood paint? Rustoleum's Professional Series has always worked well for me. It's taking a beating on the ATV's snow plow blade this winter.

And we never said you should use flat black (flat blech!). Semi-gloss or satin was the majority vote!
..

Sorry yeah I meant satin

And I've about read myself crazy about different paints. My buddy who helped me with the rust (and has restored a few dentsides himself) recommended it. I just want something that is going to hold up and not flake off like my engine paint ended up doing. Lot of people like it and with the activator it seems like it should work pretty good. I've sprayed some of that Rustoleum rust reformer stuff on my radiator and core support and it chipped off (ya doesn't make since lol) on the radiator. I might look into it some more. Like I said Eastwood is on backorder till mid March

Got it. Yeah, the rust reformer stuff probably doesn't stick well to the aluminum radiator.

It's the original radiator, steel not aluminum. Just was shocked it chipped off because it claims it "changes rust" to a neutral compound (paraphrasing) and yet it chipped off like paint

Ah, ha. I wasn't pickin' up what you were puttin' down. Gotcha. Yeah, that is odd. I used to use another product that I think was called "Rust Restore" or something like that. This stuff sprayed on clear, and rust would turn black. I liked having the "visual confirmation."

EDIT - Interesting "10 Best" article HERE.

Speaking of paint..... I need to paint the block on this 351. Let's say I run it as is.... what is the best way of cleaning it, and what is the best paint for a motor nowadays? It's been a while since I used engine paint, and back then VHT was the best around. I'm thinking I'll do glass black or Ford blue. Also need to decide if I am going to go oxford white, black, or dark gray in the engine bay.

Geez.... when I start thinking about this, I've got a lot to do still, lol.
