WazUP Bear? Aren't you glad you live in Ohio and not SC or another coastal are? I'll stick with my earthquakes. LOL Hope JP is doing fine. Looked pretty darn wet down there on the TV.

I ran into a major malfunction today. I found my air bag and Navigator wheel, does not fit the 98 clockspring wiring. 97-98 have a separate clockspring. They also have a different radio plug set of plugs (but this I already was aware of). Since I'm going to drop in the android head, I will need the two extra wires for the swc's to work correctly.

I had to yank it back off and put my leather one back on. I'm hoping to find a take out clockstpring unit so I can keep this project within limits. Although, I'm pretty sure that it's already out the window. lol

I installed the wheel last night and set my regular air bag on it to see how it looked. It was nice, but needed the dark grey air bag and the wires attached. I found the grey one, and when I went to plug them in, I found the flat vs bullet plugs were different. I didn't want to do a chop job, so I'll try and find a used on and do a little researching on the radio wiring for steering wheel controls.

Oh well, I can wait for a while. So many 99 and up changes that our 97-8's just don't have. But, Some of them can be added!!!

Good morning AK! - will you have to find a clockspring that will accept the 2 additional wires needed?- then the connector plugs, are they different because of serial/yr. or assembly plant?-im glad you have a handle on these mods!- unless i take a long hard look, i just cringe at digging in to automotive wiring!!
Yes i am glad im here in Ohio!, and we are blessed here in the valley- hills pretty much surround us so it kinda breaks up any thing like tornados, but God forbid if a large one ever got down in here, it be like a pinball machine!!
We have several members in harms way- i post in the off topic section( theres a bunch of fellers over on the tater thread with a warped sense of humor)- they were posting updates yesterday.
I hope all is well with them.-
Im at work- got a couple safety jobs to pick up- nothing serious- our #7 boiler is up and running on gas-#8 about 6 wks. away- boiler operators say its a cinch to run!
What ever you get into, be careful, ive heard of un planned air bag detonations, and dont twist yourself up under the dash and get stuck with your butt sticking out- too many moose around!!
Take care ,Bill, ttyl

AK... tried to reply to your PM, but the stupid thing wouldn't allow me to attach this photo. This is how my CS looked. I think this is how you was describing what you need for your new wheel... with the 5/6 pin, white connector? This is one will work on my 97 F150 or 98 Expy.... so I was a bit confused. Is there something different?

Thanks for posting that picture White. The 97-98, like you show in your picture, is what I have. The 99 and up have a different set up, but mounts the same. It is a wiring vs plug difference. I'll have to go to the 99 up to make the steering wheel controls work for my 98. Not a big thing overall, just getting things set up to work correctly will take a bit of figuring where the two extra wires are and which of the SWC wires to add to that.

Bear. No way to the tornados. I had to go thru one when I visited a friend once. Not a pleasant night. lol

I've done enough Mustangs and Explorers, that this shouldn't be a big deal. Just trying to find a cheap unit to play with before going all out. I'd rather install new, but when making first tries at things, I like to go with used if possible.

It uses a different set of wire plugs. See the picture of the new on below.

After looking again at the picture, it might be just the plug in wire from the C.S to the second clip on the air bag. Hmmm. Although the lower has a different plug added for the radio controls, so the 99 up is what is necessary.
