That's been my plan.... to get a Boss and cut it open. My Wife, although she hasn't actually said anything, I believe is raising an eyebrow at me buying all these filters and not using them, lol. (BTW, the K&N was Made in China)

Cutting them open and inspecting the filter media, materials, construction, etc. is a good indication of overall quality and expected filtering performance, but I'd like to see some testing or data to determine at what point is filtering down to xx (or .xx) microns necessary and beneficial. Maybe there's info already out there. I've not taken the time to go down that rabbit hole.

Same here. I also don't even know "how" I'd go about testing that, to back up the validity of company claims.

I know that Fram is rated as being a better filtration element than Wix, but I can tell you that as the Wix sits, you'll get more filtered oil. All three of the filters that I've opened by Fram appear to me that there's an escape passage that would allow unfiltered oil through.

Interesting test.

It looks like some other folks weren't as impressed with the Purolator Tech filters: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/th...-techs.373920/

Thinking of a few projects for my 97 for this spring. Need to replace the fuel tank, it leaks when full. Need to replace the passenger side valve cover gasket. Want to remove the cats, throw headers on, lower it, paint the rims, and install an electric fan. Think it is a realistic goal, maybe not the headers ($$$) but the rest i think is doable before the end of July.

End of July 2024 would be easy if you have the $ and the unaccounted for time.
Only hard thing on the list is lowering it and how you intend to do that.

Lowering it might be a fall project, especially after looking at the cost some of the kits. i would want to do it right and not half *** it. Also have no kids and a 9-5 so time is plentiful, money on the other hand haha.

I don't think anyone will ever agree on it all. It's kind of a Ford vs. Chevy thing.

I also was just going through pics, and didn't realize that I did take pics. The Auto Extra is for sure Wix. From your link, it sounds like they also felt the Purolator Tech is made by Wix.

EDIT: Also, I am 99.9% sure this is made by Wix. IMO, this was the best bang-for-your-buck filter that I opened.

I want to reask, in tenth gens, is there a similarly threaded can, just a bit taller, that fits w/o interference. I KNOW how it is to get my hand in there, so I know we are at max width.

OLD Frarms books chained to the shelf used to have an index with all dimensions and threading. But will a tall can not interfere, and if so, what is it? Mire media, lower back pressure, better filtering of borderline particulate.
