Anyone know how to change the automatic "shift boot" (if that's even what you call it on an automatic lever)? I see you can buy the lever but I don't see the boot, so I assume this is yet another "yard part of you can one".

You mean the fake leather boot around the column shift handle?
If so, easy to find the part from Ford and easy to install.
I did it a while back.
Ford part number is 4L3Z-7210-BAA
You can find the boot only from Ebay, etc. but looked harder to do.

Was cheaper when I did it

Holy moley, that's salty! But yes, I mean that fake leather boot. The one on RA is $50 but it appears to not include the boot.

Looks like the better part of $40 for a used one on ebay, too. Buncha crack smokers.

OK, I have another "part" question. After pulling the instrument panel to replace bulbs and install an updated oil pressure guage module, the "key-in" dinger would not stop. I thought initially it was the orange plastic and contact assembly on the cylinder, and proceeded to mess that up, but not so badly that it won't still work. The problem, I found, is the small black plastic part that snaps into the cylinder surround and holds the blade contact. It is broken, and was allowing the metal piece to make ground contact.

Does anyone have an idea of what this part is called and if this, too, may mean a trip to the U-Pull-N-Pay?

For the time being, I have it disconnected and will just have to be conscious of leaving the keys in the ignition.

I can tell you this - that is a part of the clock spring (I just pulled one a couple weeks back). $32 for the whole thing; probably free if you cut it off.

I wondered. Thanks. Now, how to get it out of the cylinder housing without breaking it may be another issue.

The instructions for removal are also for the clock spring.
