pretty much, my better half's boss has a genesis, falling apart already and its only 5 years old
My Buddy sent me a "watch this video and tell me what you think the noise is" video. 2014 Hyundai. Just over 100K. Pretty sure it's spun a bearing. After I said that, he said "that's what I've had two others tell me too", and a shop quoted him 5800 to replace the motor.
EDIT: Just read our conversation again.... 5700 for the motor + labor, not 5800.

Theta engine? If so, replacement may be free and covered under some lawsuit and government actions.
Lawsuit is probably "Class Action" so the owner get next to nothing.
It is an Elantra. I don't recall seeing Elantra's listed in that suit when I read it a while back. I thought it was all SUV's.... I'll research. Thanks!!
EDIT: After identifying the problem (Chrysler), I remembered a guy at work has replaced the motor no less than 3 times in his 07 Caliber. Looks like it's part of that global engine deal too:

My first thought was something like closed area asphyxiation or crushed by forklift.
I visit industrial sites often in my work. Paper mills are the worst for "How the hell is this ancient *** place not killing people. And oh god, that smell."
I don't look at much acronym news to see the sensationalist headlines. See enough of that in the local news.
I work in the security world, so I see everything through those glasses, I guess.
