On the 98, I had to do something with the brown wire and dremel part of the stop on the backside of the factory switch. Can't recall exactly, that was like 13 years ago, maybe more. I could either turn them on with the running lights or leave them off.
I remember that mod. I did it on mine, but I ground down too much... so I have a JY replacement in it now with the stock config.

Man... I took over the new wheels and tires to get mounted and balanced. You'd think I was asking them to send a man to the moon. I told them everything I needed and they still called me, LOL. Anyway - going to pick it up now.

LOL.... still didn't do what I told them to. Oh well. I have new rims and tires now, and it's much happier.

Finished up my fog lights mod, finally. I ordered the wrong size "add a circuit', so I had to wait for those. I love the way it looks. I posted a pic a couple back, but I just put it all back together. Next up is the stereo, I think. While I had it apart I put the drivers dash speaker in. Also going to abandon the factory speaker wires on this upgrade.

EDIT: Damn it all... I ordered 8 gallons of this (green) from Walmart:

I received 8 gallons of this (yellow):

Needless to say, I'm not so happy. While this might work OK, I don't want to change colors in them.

Battery time for the '03. The one was dead again last evening, so I used the jump pack on it, drove into town, and put the charger on it when I got back. went out to pull off the charger, and the meter was still setting at 10Amps with the battery making a sizzling sound. (Whoops.) I think its FUBAR. (I'm thinking that it's also about ten years old.) I was considering getting an AGM because the truck sets so much, and AGM batts tolerate discharges better than standard lead-acid ones. AdvanceOreillyZone all want $200 for their "gold-level" lead acid while Costco has the Interstate AGM with a 3-year replacement warranty for $165, and Wally World has the Everstart version for $149 (with a 4-year free replacement warranty.) It looks like I'm going to the Evil Empire (if they actually have the "1 left" they showed in stock. Placed the online order, so we'll see.

Maybe a 5W solar panel on the dash, or something like that, to avoid discharges? Even disconnecting it can often help. They make battery switches that make this a non-chore. But just letting a vehicle sit is not so good for it. Daily thermal changes draw moisture into tanks and crankcases, trunks & interiors. I find myself getting chemical moisture absorbers for trucks and car trunks, from the $1 store, OReillys or Home Depot. Maybe use the truck once a week for some routine weekly task? A date night thing - Now, I gotta go take my own advise.

I have a solar charger, but where the truck is parked, it only gets sun until about 1:00. I typically drive it every couple of weeks.
