Unfortunately, Ford didn't think these pins needed dust covers. They only have metal around them.... and if you have dusty pads on there, it's curtains pretty soon.

I usually knock them into the hole with a chisel... then a large flathead the rest of the way.

I can say without a doubt, both those parts you've replaced should last many years.

Iduno, make sure your not purchasing knock-off replacements.
No, it's not cheap. The timers have all been OEM, including the one I ordered this morning. I am actually going to send in the old one for a repair that eBay will warranty for two years. The repair service is 29 dollars.

.... And it will never go bad again. Good thinking! (That's why I have a spare alt and water pump in the garage.)

Funny thing is, I don't recall having much problems with them.

For mostly street driving, they are probably OK. My Explorer saw a lot of dirt, mud, salt, dust, etc. So they were usually a grimed up black mess. Luckily Ford pulled their heads out in 95 and used the Bosch setup.

The best stuff I've used for the pins is 3M paste. It's a dielectric, -little pricey tho, -

Thank you Brew! I'll be grabbing the 3m and seeing what happens!

White, thank you for the pics. I really wasn't sure how to go about this.

Jbrew, If this truck hadn't been sitting so long I'm sure I wouldn't be having these problems either. Good reason to change the brake fluid while im at it. This stuff is probably 15 years old at a minimum.

White,
I'm beginning to think that SLC is like Mecca for not completely well hinged people.

For McDonalds, really?

But then again, I've been to hell, I mean DC and anywhere northeast of it.

I saw that... what a nut sack. It didn't used to be like this. I typed a bunch of stuff after this, but had to hit the backspace button.
