Ya know, you my be right, Brew. I forgot the pins Ford used on the early RBV's. Those are pure junk. I still might have a couple of those in my parts bins. You beat those in with a hammer... it's just two pieces of metal between rubber. They gum up pretty easy. Dang... I forgot about those.
EDIT: Yeah... these **** poor excuses for caliper pins.

JP, those pins just hammer out. I use a chisel and hammer to get them out. The problem with those is, they need to be lubed. But there is also not anything protecting the lube from the elements, so they collect dust and road grime.

Hit a milestone today.
I reckon I'll grab a cold chisel and work those things out. Im betting i snap a brake line in the process. Lol
Do you remember if your 1st gen Explorer had this style caliper? A d35 would be a good upgrade for this rig.
I gotta figure out why my dryer keeps eating timers. This is the 4th one it's eaten now.... third in under 2 years time. It also eats elements about once a year. Might be time to get a new one.
I've used Permatex Purple in the past as well. It's cheaper. The only bad thing about that stuff is it doesn't keep the dust covers sealed for long...then contaminates. That might be due to the ceramic formulation, not sure. The 3M puts that stuff it to shame.

That stuff isn't cheap. Timers especially....even the none digital units can get near 100 bucks.
I can say without a doubt, both those parts you've replaced should last many years.
Iduno, make sure your not purchasing knock-off replacements.
