Well today I managed to drop the rear U-bolts and driveline, the brake cables and the hose for the brakes from the rear end in the truck. My back was giving me fits, so that is where I stopped today. My neighbor is coming over tomorrow and we will roll the old rear diff out (on 2 tireless rims) to make movement easy. I couldn't believe that the u-bolts came right out without even having to use penetrating oil.

I did use some Royal Purple penetrate oil that a friend had me try. Talk about a wonder. I've used PB Blaster, and other brands, and NOTHING works like this stuff. It is unbelievable as hell. I couldn't budge the brake line, sprayed on some oil, 5 minutes later the brake line was off and sitting to the side. The brake cable that hooks into the connector bar, wouldn't budge, but after spraying it with the RP, it came loose almost immediately. I've found a new penetration oil now. I'm quite impressed with this stuff after today. I don't like the cost of it, but for what it does, it's definitely worth the extra cost. JMO, of course.

AK- sounds like something worth trying! Do you know if its available in retail stores? Use care rolling around under your truck, have a great day!

Are you using 2wd ubolts?
Rock auto shows a 10 3/4" ubolt and a 8 3/4" ubolt.

Would four of the 8 3/4" ubolts do the trick?

Should we be getting 2wd shocks?

Rcair....anywhere Royal Purple is sold. I've never tried the Amzoil or any other synthetic penetrants that are out there. This was my first, and I was impressed as hell. lol Thanks for thinking about my back. lol

Anthony.....yes the 2wd bolts are what I'm using. Removing the blocks will lower the truck to even height. It's raining today, so I'm not under the truck, but as soon as it's cleared up, I'll drop it out and slap the other back up in there. Using the two rims without the tires makes moving this around very easy and without so much back pain. lol The really weird thing about the whole rear end drop was that my little 18v Ryobi impact gun ripped all 16 u-bolt nuts (both rearends to the springs) without ever using penetrant or a cheater bar. They came out so well, I had to mention it.

Same with me. Kroil is a biatch to find around here. I haven't checked the Marine or Aero places for it. We have LPS all over, PB Blaster and etc, but in all my years here, I've never seen the Kroil sold anywhere. I've seen it in a supply center for the pipeline groups, but never in a store for sale. I might have to try it, if I can find it.

I found it on Amazon, but when I tried to purchase it, nope. It's an aerosol so it can't be shipped via USPS other than parcel post and that isn't in their list of choices for shipping to me. Hmmm. Maybe eBay will have a seller who doesn't follow the rules. lol I have to check now. lol

We have outside contractors that come in for capitol projects and larger jobs on down days, they'll have it with them sometimes.
I might have to hustle them out of a can!
Im gonna finish my coffee and clock on out.
Have a great evening!

Yea, field/Mobil mechanics usually had a case of it on the truck. Right next to the case of brake cleaner....that's favorite as well. Specially if run out of hand cleaner lol.
