I pissed around with part of it tonight, then the neighbor came over again. Might need to set up shop in the back yard, LOL. I think I need another coat or two of clear. But, I reaaaalllllly like this color!
I set the scoop on it momentarily before I did any work on it, just to see how I liked it. The scoop is too shiny for me. I want it more flat.
It's the 7 inch Warrior brand at HF, currently on sale for $32.99 (until tomorrow I think). It is way better than my WEN... although the WEN is probably 20 years old. Got it before I got married.
Something doesn't look right in the second pic, first pic looks like you still have some clear left, - maybe it's the pic or my screen. Are you basing first, then clearing ? How many coats of each ?
If your rattle canning clear over fresh base, you need to start right off with 7 coats of clear. Then bust your butt wet sanding the snot out it before it begins to looks alright.
My experience with rattlecanning.. Duplicolor was one of the first to put color coded, close to real automotive paint in a can, way back when. You could get that stuff to look half way decent, but it had to be done a certain way, the rattle can way lol. You could get the base on there in 3 well enough, but the clear needed to be layered up to stand a chance. Otherwise you'll be dorking around do overs for awhile. This only applies for rattle canning which is basically harassment compared to a simple and cheap spay gun. Your not putting much clear on the finish to begin with (atomization sucks), not to mention the paint your putting down is already dated. Rattlecan - 7 coats, a ton of drying time before you even begin to cut through it.. -with sand paper first.
I'll say again, a cheap spray gun HVLP is all you need to get away from 80% of that. Trying to help you avoid the burn out, - it gets old quick doing it the hard way....not saying it can't be done, it's much more work. Hope I helped this time lol.
BTW, I like the color as well, when it's brought out, -like that first pic at the front.
I only did the front of the hood so far, then the neighbor came over to show me his new bike - or I would have gotten further. There are 3 coats base, 3 clear. The HVLP will happen, just not now. Need more research on guns, etc. I am just messing around right now. The real deal won't happen before winter, I don't have nearly enough time - this thing needs A LOT of love. The goal right now is just to put something on the hood to protect it until I get to it.
I don't know anything about guns. I'll be picking your brain soon on that. I think I'll mount the hood to do the rest though. It's a PITA to keep it in one spot on the table.
We just barely got this store in June. A bunch of us were sending them store requests, lol. I actually even talked (via email) to someone at HF Corporate about franchise possibilities, and they don't do that. I knew if there was one store that we needed, it was HF. When I was in there the other day, I heard a guy (I assume from SLC) telling his Wife that "this is way nicer than our store", LOL. Usually they buy an old POS vacant building, but this was a ground up build for this store.
