White: I'm looking forward to seeing this take shape. I didn't really give much thought to the "why" behind it, and found this Hot Rod article that talks about exactly what you're doing. Yes, it frees up a few HP, but cleaning up the engine bay seems to be the real bonus to me.

Yeah, the horsepower difference, I've read, is somewhere around 5hp. I had the manual rack in it a while back, and switched back to hydraulic because the manual rack was too hard to turn when the car was not moving (I have a torn rotator cuff). Big PITA to park it in my garage, as I park right next to the wall. My main reason for doing it are two things... the Fox racks always leaked, but all of these chinese remans are even worse. Then as you pointed out, cleaning out the engine bay.

This got posted on another forum I'm on so thought I'd give you guys a laugh...

WHAT RELIGION ARE BEARS?

A PRIEST, A MINISTER, AND A RABBI WANT TO SEE WHO'S BEST AT HIS JOB. SO THEY EACH GO INTO THE WOODS, FIND A BEAR,`AND ATTEMPT TO CONVERT IT. LATER THEY GET TOGETHER.

THE PRIEST BEGINS: "WHEN I FOUND THE BEAR, I READ TO HIM FROM THE CATECHISM AND SPRINKLED HIM WITH HOLY WATER. NEXT WEEK IS HIS FIRST COMMUNION."

"I FOUND A BEAR BY THE STREAM," SAYS THE MINISTER,"AND PREACHED GOD'S HOLY WORD. THE BEAR WAS SO MESMERIZED THAT HE LET ME BAPTIZE HIM."

THEY BOTH LOOK DOWN AT THE RABBI, WHO IS LYING ON A GURNEY IN A BODY CAST. " LOOKING BACK," HE SAYS, "MAYBE I SHOULDN'T HAVE STARTED WITH THE CIRCUMCISION."

I finally got a chance to read that article. That's really cool... I wish I would have had that article several months ago when I started my research, LOL. It's probably been around a year that I've been conjuring up this thought.

EDIT: I found one thing different from my research is that this says it requires a 60A fuse. My previous research turned up 50A. Did some more research now (included 60A in the google search bar) and found that it should indeed be 60A. The article says to run 8 gauge... but I am pretty certain the original Toyota wiring is 10 gauge.

I stayed up until 1am this morning tearing the two steering columns apart.... because I was sure I was going to work on it today. Woke up and had lost the desire, so... I decided to fix my gate. The previous owner just cut that bottom crossbar and let is hang. The wheel had a carriage bolt that just had a nut on the end. So... the wheel was always going cattywampus, which was irritating (to me). I tried to use my Dad's Lincoln but for some damn reason, it won't arc. So I got out the HF and welded this C channel in there. I'm not really happy with the welds of the HF, but it's not going anywhere. BTW, the HF welder does MUCH better with Lincoln wire.

Anyone know why the Lincoln won't arc? The fan comes on, and the wire feed work. Got a good connection to ground too.

BTW, that green is supposed to be the same color. I guess it's faded. It's farmer approved, LOL.

Looks fine to me, White (says the guy who's never welded a thing in his life.)

And here I was going to compliment you on finding a paint that matched that closely. But on second thought, looks like it's time to pull the wood off and shoot the whole thing.
