Hey Guys, with the mention of possible transmission fluid replacement I wanted to toss this method in there. I have used this on both of my Gen 10's with good success. Basically you disconnect the return line to the trans and use clear tube to direct it to a graduated paint bucket so you can tell how much is coming out. Pump a few quarts out, drop the pan, swap the filter then fill and pump until all fluid in the pan, converter, pump, rad and lines is exchanged.

I've seen it suggested to remove the return line, add some clear tubing, put it down into a bucket, start the truck, and shut it off immediately upon seeing bubbles. Is this an even remotely safe process?

On another note, I took a little trip across the Cascade mountains this past week. Just a one nighter with my daughter to visit some snow in a Bavarian themed town called Leavenworth. It's about 110 miles over Steven's pass. On the way over we stopped few times for food etc. Truck was in great form. On the way back we didn't stop at all, 110 miles straight thru up and over the mountain and back to near sea level. With just a few miles to go the engine started missing with application of throttle. Like it was running on 6 or 7 cylinders and then it would be ok if I let off the gas. It idled a little rough but never died. this was only 2-3 miles form home, I parked it but had other things to do and could not troubleshoot at the time. A couple days later I checked under the hood for anything out of the ordinary, loose wires, coolant, etc. all seemed fine. I fired it up and it is like nothing ever happened. My question is, does vapor lock still exist in our semi-modern trucks? Any other thoughts? I plan to just drive it when I need to but my confidence in it is slightly shaken. I may not get back to this site for a few days so I will be slow to answer questions but if you guys had similar experiences or just any great knowledge to drop, I would be grateful to read it. Thanks.

Sounds like a coil going out to me. Any chance it was wet/humid when it happened, and dry when it corrected itself?

Just a guess but if nothing else happens I'd assume you dealt with altitude and atmospheric pressure changes. Something I've dealt with in the past. Didn't take long before the PCM self corrected for the changes. This does seem to happen more as the truck got older so there's probably something that can be corrected or fixed but is it worth it?

Obscure Tool of the Day

Any idea for what application this C-clamp may have been intended?

Excellent! That's how it's done.

It's a little more involve if you backflush the cooler.

Again just a guess but it looks like it was designed to lock into some type of fixture. Maybe for milling, drilling or sawing?

Woke up late.... should have known then things were going downhill, lol. I've got a big planning call with a networking firm today, and I left my cell phone on my night stand..... got 10 miles from home before I noticed, so I had to turn back to get it. Then when I got home I locked my keys in the Toyota. I hope things turn around today.... damn.
Sounds terrible white... but, -you went a whole 10 miles before you noticed the phone missing ? How many times did you reach under the seat for it while driving lol.

I accidentally snorted a jalapeno seed yesterday, thought I was over it but nope, still having sneezing fits, and it comes on fast!
