Default Is there a way

Is there a way for me to check to see if my truck has ever been reprogrammed with a programmer. I'm the second owner an at times I think it has been. Or I am just used to a four banger at times. Had a 2.5 ranger before this truck it's a 4.2. I've just always wondered if there was a way to figure out weather or not it has had a programmer on it. I wonder cause everyone I see talking about how slow and weak a 4.2 is I I really don't think mine it bad at all. It's got power even when pullin a trailer. Just something I've always wondered about. Thanks for any info/help.

I'm not sure there is a way but I think the 4.2 is a very peppy motor I worked on a guys truck that was a reg cab short bed with the 4.6 and it was super slow I know my 4.2 would have beat him easy have beaten some 4.0 Jeeps too

Well he needed to change the spark plugs or something there's no way a non boosted 4.2 could beat a 4.6 single cab short bed. my 5.4 single cab short bed 4x4 eats my cousins 4.2 single cab short bed 2wd w/stick i go like 60% throttle and he's nowhere to be found. My straight 4 jeep can keep up with him till like 35. lol once raced a 4.6 singlecab shortbox 4x4 and i won by like 2 car lengths in a 0-60.

Only way I am aware of how to check is to use a tuner to pull the codes out or have Ford check the PCM code.

I was reading some where the 4.2 has more power per cylinder than the 4.6. I was reading that I didn't say it personally before y'all start tellin me there no way. So don't kill the messenger LOLOL.

I've got 265/75/16 maxxis mudders and I can light em up from dead stop on flat ground. Leaving smoke. I don't like to do it it's a waste of money. Gas and tires. 4.2l engine not too shabby. That's y I wonder if mine has been tuned.
