This^ Machine shop work in my area is going to run me $1k, parts another 2000. I literally cannot build a short block myself for cheaper than I can buy their's

I'd go for it man, but keep in mind if you want aftermarket or built heads they're just as pricey if not more.

All this talk keeps me thinking I want to build one too. Hell the more I look the more I'm realizing all I want is a clean block, some mildly dished pistons, stage one cams, and a good tune.

Go for it man! If you don't want 400+ hp power levels, builds get much much cheaper lol.

I would be happy with 350 Hp and 325 Tq. Mine is burning a quarter of oil every 2k miles and taking 12 seconds to hit 60 with no load so I would really like to change that.

Yeah I'm in the same situation. I was gonna start an engine build, but then I know my trans won't last much longer after that. Then what's the point of putting in a new trans if I'm just gonna keep it working hard with the stock gearing and 35s. So I'll probably be doing gears here in the next few months, then building a trans, then eventually the engine. I'm hoping gears knock a few seconds off the 0-6. If I can get it back to around or below 10 seconds with 4.56s I'll be happy. I think it should do better than that tho

On my 93 octane performance tune I timed 9.8 0-60. And the other day I timed 10.5 haha. I think the softness in my trans is causing the weird differences in time

I'll never build my own Shortblock again unless it's something low powered and basic like a 302SBF or 350SBC. I've blown 5 shortblocks at the 436-700rw range and 3 of them I built. While I won't take full responsibility for any of them, it sure was nice to just yell at the builder and have them cover it. That's why I ended up parting out my Mustang. I was tired of it all and needed a break. ..I switched hobbies to Guns, which at the time I thought would have been cheaper but then I discovered NFA. lol

It's also why I'm not in a hurry to do anything major to my truck. I just know no matter what way I go it's going to be a headache. ..because nothing I do ever goes smoothly. Although just buying a new truck could go pretty easy, lol.

Lol but even with a new one the added payment can be a headache.

My black truck had a 0-60 of about 9.6-9.8 and I just got a new trans in mine less than 20k ago so I'm really hoping that's not my problem.
