As far as for what? Programming it?

And my 97 cluster would still work properly with everything and my odometer would still work correct?

PATS is the issue that's hard to overcome. It would take someone that has personally delt with issue in the past or a tuner with a good understanding. Tuners can be very different lol.

Like Charlie said, The dealership should be able help with that.

Ahh okay. So PATS is the only thing that really would give a dilemma then

Definitely wont work, you will be re pinning plugs changing ignition components, and harnesses.

Seems like there's a few hoops to jump thru. Some 98's had PATS, - Expy's/Nav's. But yea, that's no help. It's a big deal.

Why not just find a 97-98 donor? Would make it much easier. And why are you contemplating swapping? Having trouble with yours?

No I was just wondering. Only reason why I brought it up was if and when I finally do work to my motor, whatever that may be, if I need to get my truck tuned it would probably be a whole lot easier to tune with a PCM out of a 99-03 than a 97/98. Plus weren't the 97/98 PCMs locked?

No. Wouldn't be easier. Much more difficult actually. Another difference is the 97 - 98's have a mechanical speed sensor. Just something else you'd have to figure out. Leave it be unless it breaks!

Ahh okay. So the 97/98 PCMs aren't locked then? And what makes it easier to use a 97/98 PCM other than what you already stated, for as far as tuning?

I was trying to recall, yea Justin was the guy at VMP Tuning was the go-to with this kind of question. Great guy! Real popular about 5 years ago, might still be. Perhaps they have a forum over there. If so search PATS issues at the site. Worth a shot, he wasn't afraid to provide info and that made him popular.
