I got the truck back and they told me that when they opened up the front dif and moved the front axles, a clip fell out that was all bent and chewed up...they checked everything, replaced the clip and presto-chango, I have 4x4 again...it cost me a few dollars but I know it is done right..

What a crazy thing...

Problem:
[*]4Hi does NOT work, but 4Lo does[*]If I switch it to 4Hi and then back to 2Hi while driving, it makes a grinding sound until I stop and switch it back to 4Hi, then back to 2Hi again
What I've looked at:
[*]Case motor sounds like it is working[*]4X4 indicator light in dash is working[*]Solenoids by the battery both click when switch is turned
I'm a mechanical newbie, so go easy on me. I took a video of the vacuum actuator and I'm not sure if it is working right. Another post I saw said you have to uncover it to see if it is working, but mine has no cover on it. Watch as a switch to 4Hi and back.

Here is the video:

I don't know where to go from here. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
your front diff looks like it is working properly. To me the tc motor is starting ans stopping in spots that it shouldn't be or something is happenening in your tc that shouldn't be lol

What did you see that made you think that? Sorry, but it's my first 4x4 and I'm new to all this anyways. I can hear the case motor spinning up when the switch is turned, but I don't know if it sounds good or bad.

I have a question about the actuator on the front diff. I noticed when its in 4H,the rod only moves about 1/4",but when I put it in 2H,it moves about 1.5".

Is this normal or do I have a weak solenoid or vacuum leak?

Is it still engaging your front diff? and try hitting it with some spay and work it back and forth manually while truck is off.

Yea when I first noticed it I sprayed it with wd40,still same amount of travel. I haven't got it in the air to check engagement but it doesn't seem like it would. How exactly do I check the solenoids?

I checked selonids visually but you can get a vaccum tester that puts them under pressure and see it if hold which would mean there is no cracks and you can do this with the lines too. Another way is to get underneath the truck, pull the vaccum lines off the actuator and have someone in the truck, running and put it in and out of four wheel drive you should feel slight suction in the lines. One closet to passenger side tire is to put it in, closer one to driver is to take it out. To check if your four wheel drive is engaged go on a dirt road. put it in four wheel drive and turn sharp left and you should feel the drive rear tire slipping meaning it is in four wheel drive and it is engaged. if it does then the front has not engaged.
