When i shut it off I could hear and smell the 90 weight boiling. It sat for 3 years and when i started it back up it was no longer in 4wd but now will not engage at all.
Tap the transfercase motor.

Yes. I soaked it with PB, dried it off and coated it with white lithium grease. It feels like something inside is keeping that arm from moving smoothly. Can I get to that from the diff cover? Or does that axle tube need to come off?

99 f150 my four wheel drive engages but when i flip switch it sounds rough kinda like gears not meshing like 2-3 seconds then a loud thud. Started end of last winter have not used it since. Any help would be great.

Mine had a loud thud too before i changed my tc motor and that was the diagnoses after it wouldnt engage entirely.

ok so i got off work early yesterday and on the way home i was at a stop sign and decided to try to put it in 4x4hi and it went fine herd the click in the dash and then drove around for a minute, then I tried to put it in 4w low and it wouldnt do anything not surprisingly(never has gone in 4w low since i got the truck) tried to hit the motor with a hammer with no result. But now it wont come out of 4x4hi? It seems like everything works fine when i hear the click from the relay in the dash, i believe its the transfer case shift relay? Im guessing it could be going out, but was wondering if the relay would just pick and choose when it wants to work, if it was going out, or if the transfer case motor itself can engage and disengage even though the relay wasn't working? Thanks for all the help guys
