Just a quicl tip guys, if you ever need your 4X4 and cant engage it with the switch or cant get out of it you can always get under your rig and look at the transfer case. It will have 3 screws on the bottom and by taking of that panel you can manually engage or disengage as long as the truck is in Neutral. It should even be labled 2 4h or 4l.

The motor has three screws on the round part and the cylinder that comes off the side also has a bolt too. They are all ten milimetre and yes once you take the trans case motor off the triangular pin is pointing in the direction of what mode your in. 2hi 4hi or 4lo. Its stamped right into the transfer case. The pin turns very easily in neutral or park.

Hi All. Ok, I have a 4x4 problem on my 97 f150xlt. it has the shift on the floor, not the electic one. it started that I shifted into 4 high and no matter if I was sitting still, in neutral, or crusing or parked, would not engage right away. Usually about 10-15 minutes of driving all of a sudden it would engage (great when you need it in 15 minutes, not when you need it now). I could get it to go into 4 low no problem. Yesterday, I drove it and had in 4 high, but only the light was working, not actually in 4 high, stopped at a light and when I started to drive off, wasn't engaged in anything and couldn't get it to engage in 2 or 4 high, finally it banged into 4 low, but if I didn't hold it, it would pop back out. Drove it where I could park it adn turned it off for 15 minutes. It then went back into 2 high, but popped out within a km, same situation, had it in 4 low but had to hold it. The light for 4x4 or 4x4 low did not come on and didn't feel like it was in 4x4 at all, only engine felt it. Any thoughts?? and many thanks in advance!

***There use to be a time when you pulled the stick back and locked in your front hubs and then you knew is was in!

I have a 2000 f150 and it has the 4wd switch. The problem I am having is when I lock my truck in 4wd only one side locks in (the passenger side I think) and the other doesn't. The driver side makes a loud humming sound while I'm driving. And also it will not disengage unless I totally stop. Any help would be very appreciated!!!
