so you can really get that kit for under 300?! and no cutting! which shroud would i need? and do they not offer the 55w 6k bulbs? if not, will the 35w kit be plenty bright? i highly thinking about doing this now! haha

I assume the shield would be powered by the high beam circuit.

You should be able to reuse the ballast. Bulbs and harness would need to be replaced with the H1 set.

A couple things guys.

The H1 bulb is what you need, but you can use your existing ballasts. You do need a new harness for the projectors. The high beam is powered by an internal solenoid in the projector which simply drops the internal cutoff shield when high beam is activating, opening the entire projector to light. The mini H1 comes with the mini gattling shroud which fits the mini well. You can order the Apollo for the mini which might help to fill out the factory reflector a bit more. I have the apollo shroud on my FXR which you can see in my gallery.

Secondly, DO NOT use 50w+ HIDs in the Mini, the reflector bowl in the projector will not stand up to that kind of heat. The 35w is plenty bright, and with the ballasts from TRS they are nearly as luminously bright as most cheaper 55w HIDs anyways, except all of the light projected to the ground for better performance.

As for D2S vs H1 mini, use the H1. The D2S mini is a larger projector and will require cutting. A guy on hidplanet had to cut a bit to get D2S mini to fit his 2006 F150.

With the Mini kit in your fogs, you'll basically be getting a fog light (low) and a driving light (high), right? Think they'll fit in the 06-08 (round) fogs? The projector should take most of the heat preventing the lens from melting, right?

For now I am going to wire it as a foglamps only. In the future (maybe next winter when I am hunting early morning in the dark a lot) I may wire it for ability to use quad high beams, we'll see.

Doubt the mini will fit the 06+ housings, its too long. This thing might though:

Should be available soon as there is great interest in it.

I wouldn't use 50w+ unless you are using a much larger projector, heat is an issue. Believe me, 35w is plenty in a proper projector. 50w will make your pupils contract anyways, hurts your downrange vision. Stick to 35w.

How about a pic by pic write up about how to take the lenses off? That's my biggest concern... Other than that, should I just abandon the DDM HID kit and use the kit included with the mini? Can someone so a full write up, this is becoming a frankenstein wiring job....

Looks like the pics are dead, but here is the lens removal write up (for painting the housing in the example):
