I did this to my truck today, very noticeable throttle response with my 04 4.6L V8
Anyone know of the easiest way to take the silencer out? It was a pain in the *** and then got dark so I gotta try again tomorrow.
Any info would be appreciated, thanks fellas

I used vice grips to break down the edge of the silencer. Than I just pulled it out. Wasn't to difficult.

From what I understand the PCM does not learn about this the O2 sensors take care of the adjustments. So pulling the battery cable does not seem to be required.

There is no re learning on any front. The engine can only pull in a certain amount of air, which stays the same, and the MAF environment isn't changed. It's when the MAF is changed that tuning needs to be done. O2 sensors and MAF don't adjust ever. They are simply sensors. The O2s read a/f ratios and the MAF reports the air coming in, the PCM makes the adjustments to injector pulses to change a/f to what it believes is correct. The long and short term fuel trims aren't adjusted. Pulling the negative cable resets the ECU, PCM tuning doesn't change. Resetting the ECU resets the fuel trims and that's where much of the throttle response comes from after the procedure.

I did this mod to my 08 5.4L about a month ago. Very noticeable difference in throttle response. Has a lot more pep to it. I also have a flowmaster exhaust and airraid filter to help it out a little more.
