Engine Cleaning
Hi all, I have been told NOT to clean your engine. I know Ford makes an engine Degreaser. Is there a right way to clean your engine with out hurting any thing? My truck is super clean on the out side and would LOVE to clean the Engine compartment. I do wipe some part on top with a rag sprayed with Tire dressing but want to hit the engine block. Thanks for looking...

I've sprayed mine off with no problems.

I have been wondering the same thing!! It takes a ton of time to try to wipe all the nooks and crannies in there spraying would be so much easier but I've always been told not to

If you have any frayed wiring or cracked sensors your going to find out. I used to replace ignition coils left and right after the detailers at the dealership got done with them.
Im not saying not to do it, just be careful.

Also, obviously avoid spraying the Computer up on the firewall. I have used a can of brake cleaner/carb cleaner on the tough areas like the block and heads on other older cars I've owned. Worked like a champ!
Try to avoid letting water pool up in the valley of the block.

Spray simple green. Let it sit 10 mins and clean with a spray bottle of water and dry with compressed oil free air. This way you can be surgical about it.

I just did it at the DIY carwash a few days ago with no problems. Just bring a can of degreaser like Gunk since the stuff there is too weak. Then spray Gunk all over the grease and dirt and don't forget the hood. No more than half a can is plenty even for a really dirty engine. Wait a few minutes and use the pressure wand with soap to blast everything off. Just keep away from the computer on the dash and the coils. The connectors are sealed so a little splash is OK but no direct spray. Finish off with just water spray. Most cars I shut the engine off when washing but for the F150 I kept it running during the process.
