Wait a few minutes and use the pressure wand with soap to blast everything off. Just keep away from the computer on the dash and the coils. The connectors are sealed so a little splash is OK but no direct spray. Finish off with just water spray. Most cars I shut the engine off when washing but for the F150 I kept it running during the process.
Looks amazing but I don't have the ***** to use all that soap, water and pressure under the hood. I can't afford to fix anything right now.

I've always used degreaser and a pressure washer and never had a problem. I stay away from the battery and fuse box.

Why should you run the engine while washing?

Here is what you need
-Simple Green full strength
- Turtlewax F21 Tire Dressing FOAM
Amazon Amazon

- A few rags
-A garden hose
-30 mins
I run a detailing business on the side and have done this with 20+ cars and have never had a problem.
Warm up the truck to normal operating temperature and then cover anything you dont want wet with tin foil (I didn't cover anything but the alternator when I did mine and it turned out fine.) DOnt go nuts with the water and dont use a lot of pressure, it isn't needed

-Take a hose and mist the entire engine bay. You may see a little bit of steam. This is good, it helps the simple green "steam clean" your engine

-Spray Simple Green over EVERYTHING, especially on the parts that have oil or grease heavily stained on them

-Close the hood and let the simple green and steam do their thing. I usually wait 15-20 mins.

-Open the hood and rinse lightly. Take a rag and wipe any heavily soiled areas and re apply simple green as needed

-Now spray the tire dressing over every surface. I avoid spraying directly on the serpentine belt but its okay if a little gets on it.

-Close the hood and wait 15 minutes.

-Take a clean rag and wipe any standing tire dressing off.

-Take a leaf blower or compressed air and dry out the engine bay. I usually let the truck or car sit for about an hour just to be safe and to let all remaining moisture evaporate.

You'll get it cleaner if the engine is hot. And if it's running you'll know right away if you need to stop.

Thanks man, good to see I'm not the only one who's crazy enough to clean the engine bay on a truck
