My truck is a pleasure cruiser and I drive it maybe once or twice a week. He gets a bath once a week as well. There is a low pressure engine degreaser feature at the car wash I frequent which I use every time. I let it soak a minute or two then pressure wash it off. I did the same thing with my Mustang for 11 years, with the only side effect being a clean engine. A mechanic at my dealer advised to do it often or not at all. The issues they have are the people who decide to do it after five or ten years and have the pressure wand going for twenty minutes or more. The heat and pressure soften seals protecting precious electrical components and there's your damage.

You still have to be careful not to direct the blast at anything electrical, but damn does that engine bay look great!

I do it every spring on my cars and trucks as all the road salt builds up under there over winter.

Warm it up for 5 mins
I cover the alternator with a plastic bag
Spray generous amounts of Simple Green
Let sit for 10 to 15 mins
Spray away,a garden hose is all you need
Dry with compressed air or a leaf blower(yeah yeah but it works!)

Never had an issues using this method, just gotta use some common sense when doing this and you'll be good.
