Ever since I bought my truck last November I've had issues with my rear defroster working intermittently, some days you pressed the button and it worked, others it didn't. A couple weeks ago it quit all together, took it to the dealer and was told that the rear defroster had "failed". Brand new slider window replaced under warranty, works 100% now. This window is supposedly "updated", I run it whenever I need it. No reason why everyone should be scared to use their defroster, especially if they have already had the old version replaced. If you still have warranty I'd be running it constantly hoping it would break so you get the new one...

You'd think that would be the case. But we've got over 40k miles on ours, so we're not covered any more under warranty, even though we bought the extended warranty from the dealer. Find print says it doesn't cover glass damage. I told the dealer that it was Ford's electrical problem that caused the glass damage, and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "Sorry."
Fortunately the comprehensive part of our vehicle insurance covered it in full.
I'll probably use it, but maybe not with the kids back there.

The fix involves replacement of the entire window unit. The replacement part for just the glass for the original glass unit is not available. I had the entire unit replaced at a cost of over $1,100.

After some patience on my part I was finally able to convince Ford that they should replace the entire window unit under my extended warranty. I paid the $100 deductible.

My advice is to start at the top on any company that you are dissatisfied with your customer service experience. Be polite and stick to the facts. Rhetoric and threats will get you no where. In this case I went to Alan Mulally and he responded professional. He listened and had had my issue resolved.

I have a new respect for Ford Motor Company. It is a much better company since the last member of the Ford family step down from the top management job,

Bend over and grab your ankles. Ford doesn't use lube.

My 2011 did same, and I was told my extended warranty did not cover glass. Fortunately, my comp insurance covered it in full. $549.00

Did they have to change the whole rear window or just part of it?

I'm in the same situation. Ford approved 50% coverage. For a defect they won't acknowledge. I was less than 2 months out of warranty and 23k miles. I put in a claim to my insurance that covered some but still $200 out of pocket to me. I shouldn't have to pay anything or deal with my insurance company for turning on my rear defroster.

Fk Ford. Love my truck, hate the company. I won't buy another Ford again nor will I recommend them to anyone.

They have to change the whole rear window. The original part number is superseded by a new part # (redesigned?).
