I was told that the whole window had to be changed. I have the original one, and I haven't looked closely at it, but I think it's all one unit. The actuator seems to be all there as well, and that had to be replaced while we were on a trip in Arizona. That was under warranty.

Did Ford ever get this issue fixed? Is it still happening in the 13 and 14's?

Do you have the part # for the first one replaced? I'm curious if the window was the newest version.

Hi llh2860,

I want to jump in here and do what I can to help. To get started, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership. I'll research some options to assist.

I have a 2012 Fx4 and it just happened to me yesterday morning driving to work when I put the defroster on. There was actually a "hissing" sound kind of like slowly letting out pressure from a can of pop. It kept hissing when I was searching around when it just sounded like it reached a really high pitched sound than "POP" the rear window just shattered. The one thing I do notice is all the pictures that show these windows show some orange fluid coming from the bottom of the window. Of course nobody wants to touch this issue with me as I have 73,000 km on my truck and they say "never heard of it, and your over your 60,000 km warranty (even though I still have extended premium care warranty). I do have one dealer that says they do know about the issue but FORD will not help them cover any warranty issues???????

I am concerned because I have a rear facing child seat that faces the grenade itself and if I get a new window how do I know it won't happen again. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with dealing with a motor company
