Default Exploding rear slider window

Not a new thread, but with cold weather here, who has had their 2010 window shatter/explode? Mine did today, and it's a $654.00 repair. Ford changed the design, and wiring on the replacement, so they know there is a problem. No joke, it sounded like a .38 going off. Ford did not offer to do anything. It even melted the window housing and cooked the gasket it got so hot!

Off topic a bit......

My rear slider had to be replaced, as my latch broke first time I opened the window. They don't make any parts for the latch, so they replaced the whole Slider . My Dealer got Ford to replace it, plus my 3rd brake light cause it was filling up with water.

It's a defect from the factory. POS design and I cannot believe they didn't cover it.

Ok, but what caused the window to explode? Is it from using the defrost? Should I be worried about it?

The defrost grid overheats unevenly and the glass expands then explodes.

I'm also betting that since the glass is so hot, a few drops from condensation on the truck might happen to splash onto the glass and stress fracture it.

Sorry... yes, from what I have read it is caused by using the defrost.

"don't press that button, your back window will blow up."

Mine seems to be heating evenly judging by the lines in the frost. Mine comes on automatically with the remote start if the temp is below 50.

I decided a while ago that I really don't need the rear defrost so I pulled the fuse and disabled it. I just don't want the hassle. But I do use the heated mirrors.

Ford should do the right thing and issue a recall for the 2010 model year and upgrade the window. Smoke/heat/fire and shattering glass is definitely a safety issue.
