I got my OEM hoses I ordered today. I removed one O-ring and measured it with a flat ruler and took it to another O-rileys to match and measure. Closet thing they had was a 7/8". Petef150 I got the same thing measuring the New one. Inside diameter 3/4 ,Outside diameter 15/16 ,thickness every bit 3/32. The Dorman O-ring is about 1/16 of inch smaller outside diameter. Not much but still smaller and I called Dorman and talked to Marty to let him know. One thing too the new Oem O-rings are slightly lubed with something, maybe silicone grease to help insure they dont get twisted while being installed. I can feel the difference too in how much firmer the OEM feels when you squeeze down. Anyway, you cant beat the OEM hoses and clips all for $44.00 shipped to your door. That could be another option to modify those, that is about the same or less than the Dorman connectors and you know they are not going to leak or shouldn't at the quick connects. Hey Petef150 I am going to send you a PM to find out where you ordered your O-rings from so I can replace all in my original OEM hoses that I took the O-rings out.

Default Gates Quick Connect 90's

So, is anyone willing to be "guiena pig" for the alternate Gates 90 fittings that KPC found to see if they leak like the Dormans?!!?......Bueller, Bueller??

Or KPC, since you have been leading this O-ring parade.....if you'd be willing to order a single Gates 90 to disect and measure the O-rings, I'd be willing to buy it off of you if it meets spec, otherwise you could return it for refund expressing it is the wrong part or whatever. Because if the Gates work, then they should be substituted for the Dormans on the parts list for those wishing to partake.

Thoughts??

Bueller,Bueller?? very funny,lol!
I talked to O'Reilys about the gates after I called gates and a tech there could not give me the specs on their O-rings in the 28505. Petef150 did have the OEM ones sized and posted it. Im still not 100% sure about mine until more time passes on my swap, but so far so good. If you really want me to order one of these I will. I will just have to pay shipping to return it, about $7 bucks. It takes 5-7 business days to get one, coming from the factory special order.Because these are very expensive at O'Reilys 29.95+ shipping+tax ,Unless you buy them here with free shipping over $25 bucks.
Amazon.com: Gates 28505 Heater Hose: Automotive Amazon.com: Gates 28505 Heater Hose: Automotive
and I would only do that if i knew absolutely for sure they will work. At amazon that would be $65.96 and I guess +tax. I wouldnt want you to buy it from me at that price of 29.95. I would just return it and then anyone who wanted could buy them online at the above website or if they can find them cheaper. I think modifying a new set of OEM hoses could be a good option using your gates power grip heat couplers and some 90's. Since I appear to be the Lead O-ringer, just let me know if you want me to order one and I will.

Yikes! Didn't realize they were that costly! Hmm, thinking since I have invested in the Dormans already, if the stock O-ring swap is working, I will go that route and just order a set of new stock hoses like you did for my backup for "back to stock" mode.

If they cost that much, they probably work like a charm...you know how that goes.

Thats what I was thinking too, at that price they should. I asked the tech at gates if their connectors were made in the USA by gates, and he said he wasnt sure, but that most of their products are better made. I would probably agree with that statement, but he did say some of their parts come from another source, dont know where but the Dormans are made in (CHINA) as most stuff. Its like buying blue jeans, 5 different countries at Old navy made the same style pants, and if you vary from country to country you will have to go up or down a size in the waist or length to get the same style to fit. So i have to try on every single pair so they will fit. The OEM hoses have Mexico all over the hose part. So who knows? No leaks yet today.

Like KPC, I have not had any leaking since I installed the OEM o-rings into the Dorman 90's. I've driven about 300 miles since putting them in and I have jiggled, wiggled, pushed, pulled, and otherwise fully molested the hoses and haven't seen a drop come out. I will probably still order a set of OEM hoses to keep around in case of a stock out though, or a set of o-ring to put back into the original hoses.

Time will be the final judge, but I think we've found the problem and solution. Lots of thanks to KPC for all of his hard work and time put into this.

Thanks guy, just like you said time will tell. If these leak then I would say that it would be due to not being in a perfect stress free line. Thanks to Pete for finding the correct size of the OEM O-rings. I am going to attempt to verify that again this evening after work. Then you can just order the O-rings and put in your factory hoses or the Dormans depending on where you are at with it and save your money on the OEM hoses. Pete will probably post where you can get them, he is a great individual! Like you guys

Default O-ring fitment and lube

I went buy O'reillys and they did not have anything special to mic O-rings for comparison. Just what you measure brakes with. But Petef150 sent me some of the O-rings he got and he said he got them at Applied Technologies http://www.applied.com/apps/commerce...0116-O%20PACK#
It seems to be a exact fit to me. I put one in one of my original hoses and compared it to my newly OEM ordered hoses(both OEM hoses) Seemed to fit find. Only difference is that the new hose connector O-rings have been lubricated with some kind of light coating that will allow them to slide very easy inside. I really believe we need to lube the O-rings when installing them. Dorman recommended using some kind of silicone grease. Just have to make sure it is friendly to rubber. I didnt lube the originals that i have in my Dormans now, I only put a little antifreeze on them. If anyone can help us select the correct type of lube for these O-rings please chime in. Also O-reillys did have the correct size O-rings too, made by national part #116 http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...d=o-ring+-+sae They seemed to be the same size also. They show the same specs as far as size, not sure about the material. Anyway thanks Petef150 for you help and I hope you all had a great Fathers Day!

I didnt realize this, but The Applied technologies offers some lubes on their website and also has a tech number. I think you would only need it for brand new O-rings.
