Issue: Cannot default the My Ford Sync system (without Navigation) to Bluetooth audio
Some users are having an issue with when they turn the ignition on their My Ford Sync system reverts to Line-In even though they were using Bluetooth audio when they turn their vehicle off. They would like to have the system revert back to Bluetooth audio instead of having to go through the menus to be able to get to Bluetooth audio or use the voice commands. A Ford customer service representative FordIVTteam actually joined in the conversation and gave the reason why Ford made this change (as it would previously revert to Bluetooth) and the best method to get back to the source they wanted.

Can Sync default to Bluetooth Audio?
Have you tried duplicating this effect with another USB device? Try putting a few music files on a blank USB (formatted to FAT32, this is important), then connect with SYNC to see if the pause behavior occurs again. If it doesn't, soft reset your iPod: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
If the issue replicates regardless of the USB device attached, give SYNC a master reset to refresh the operating system: http://support.ford.com/sync-technol...ter-reset-sync
Let me know how it goes!

I seem to be having a similar issue with my sync - 2013 F150 STX RCSB 4x4. I did a master reset two weeks ago, connected phone and assigned as primary device. I keep bluetooth turned on on the phone (iphone 4s), yet I like to connect via cable/usb for my music. I notice that when I connect the phone in the truck, Sync defaults to Line in, yet I still have to go through the menu to get the system to play my music via cable...every time. hopefully that is legible.....any ideas? Ford website says the Sync is up to date.
I have been dealing with this since 2009. Sync is very flaky. Sometimes it behaves and sometimes I have to do a master reset and remove the fuse. You figure they would have fixed it in 5 years. I guess not! I am so close to just trashing sync and the HU and getting an aftermarket HU. Last night I spent an hour trying to figure out why all of a sudden it wouldn't play mp3's anymore. M4a's worked fine. Resetting the whole system worked but this is quite frustrating.
Back in 2010 after several weeks of troubleshooting I found a procedure that worked for mine. If I wanted it to default back to its last source, I had to make sure that source was connected and playing when I shut it down. If not it would start up on Line in. Also, when starting, I would wait for the phone to sync before I turn on the radio. This way it would be ready to play when started. This method has seemed to work for the last couple of years.

Have you checked for any available software updates for your vehicle? PM your VIN if you'd like me to check for you.

I recommend using an alternative USB device. You might find intermittent functionality via your iPhone, but you'll get the best performance through a USB thumb drive or dedicated MP3 player such as an iPod.

I did check last night on syncmyride and I am up to date. I forgot to add that the problem with the Mp3's, was playing off of a 16GB memory stick. The weird thing is it was working, than when I changed to a different artist, it all of a sudden just stopped. I figured maybe it was the stick so I reformatted another one and copied the same Mp3's to it. Same result, dead stick. Than I did a Master reset and still nothing. Finally, I pulled the fuse, waited 10 seconds and reinstalled. Bingo, back in action. Over the years I have had several issues with sync but after these procedures it seems to go back to normal operation.
Hi iRub1Out,
It never hurts to check. There are plenty of 2009 vehicles on the road that have never updated from v1.
Schambo,
I'm glad to hear the fuse pull restored the system. This shouldn't be a frequent occurrence, but if it does begin to happen more and more often this could possibly point to issues with your APIM. Let me know if anything else comes up!

Antonio,
Dealer told my friend that a new sync update is rolling out in a few days? Not one for MyFordTouch Sync, just regular sync. Are they correct? Will this fix the iphone text message problem?

Should the SYNC software not default to my last used source? Sounds like Ford needs to invest in some better IT staff/devs for SYNC, if basic functions like this don't work.
