Issue: Cannot default the My Ford Sync system (without Navigation) to Bluetooth audio

Some users are having an issue with when they turn the ignition on their My Ford Sync system reverts to Line-In even though they were using Bluetooth audio when they turn their vehicle off. They would like to have the system revert back to Bluetooth audio instead of having to go through the menus to be able to get to Bluetooth audio or use the voice commands. A Ford customer service representative FordIVTteam actually joined in the conversation and gave the reason why Ford made this change (as it would previously revert to Bluetooth) and the best method to get back to the source they wanted.

Interesting but I found out this morning having Bluetooth audio connected then switching to satellite and turning truck off the Bluetooth audio reconnects on its own.
Satellite free week ran out on way to work and I was surprised to see Bluetooth audio instead of line in when I was cycling through media on steering wheel.
Going to try duplicating this after work.
Just hitting aux button is way faster than speaking command.
Sorry if this was posted before I just discovered by accident.

Hi fordtruckman2003,

There are some variances in behavior between each version of SYNC. These differences can even be found on the same SYNC platforms when comparing system functionality between software levels.

Umm,

No harm done. Sharing your perspective is what these forums are all about. I appreciate the sentiment though.

Variances in behavior are bad for Ford...
Customers expect a consistent experience.
That is why so many are upset that only some versions default to Bluetooth audio.

I'm more upset that a simple USB thumb drive will kill sync if it is not removed every time truck is shut off.

fordtruckman 2003,

Each SYNC software update is released with the intention of creating consistency between SYNC platforms. The core functionality in SYNC shouldn't deviate within the same platform (original SYNC, SYNC w/nav, MyFord, MyFord Touch) but you will notice differences between systems when they are running older/newer software iterations. The platform was designed to expand and grow along with the user base. In order to do this the system must be able to adapt, which can lead to some of the variances you're referring to.

What kind of issues are you having with your USB drive? I can offer some pointers pertaining to your situation.

My primary complaint isn't that it doesn't default to BT audio, its THAT combined with the fact that all my screen says is "Bluetooth Media Stream" - not any info on what I'm listening to.

I don't like it but I'm OK with saying BT audio to hear it, I just want it to display what im streaming.

That bugs me more than the default thing.

Is there any way I can roll the sync software in my 2011 back to when bluetooth would play on startup? I hate having to say bluetooth audio every time I go somewhere. Bluetooth is the only source I use.

Agreed is there anyway the old software could be posted up for download somewhere?

iRub1Out,

That's definitely a very sought-after feature. In my personal opinion, I'd be surprised if this functionality doesn't accompany the AppLink expansion. I say this at the full risk of being totally wrong, of course, but it just makes sense to me. Many phones are already able to send the song metadata when playing music that's physically stored on the device - although, this is a different story when using music streaming apps such as Pandora. Either way, we'll have to wait and see what kind of changes the next software update brings.

Hello CP3 & Bdukes55,

Unfortunately, there aren't any online resources that I can suggest.
Although dealers are not advised to install previous software versions, these situations are handled on a case-by-case basis, depending on your specific concerns.

If USB is playing and left plugged in when truck is shut off. When starting truck the entire sync system won't work until maybe 5-10 minutes later but usually need to shut off truck and open door and wait then start truck again. If it does start working again on its own it forgets everything about the USB instead of resuming where it left off.
Works fine if truck is only off 20-30 minutes then sync doesn't lose power.
Been like this since I bought truck running latest version of sync (now 2 years old).
