Default Bad mileage?

I bought a 2011 Screw, 5.0, 2wd, 3.73 rear two months ago. I only drive 5 miles to work, here in Mich. all city drivng. Should I be shocked I am only getting 10 mpg?

Seems pretty bad.

Actually, you should get it checked, in spite of what a dealer might tell you. I've also got an 11 SCREW FX4 with the 5.0 and 3.73. I average about 17.5-18.0. Nothing aggressive in my driving style, with a combination of highway (4 miles) and 3-5 miles (city), so right now, about 9 miles each way to and from work. I do let it warm up for about three minutes before heading out (got to love that remote start!). Other areas I've worked produce similar results. Now if I do strictly city driving, it drops down to about 14.5, but nowhere nearly as bad as what you're reporting. Long distance runs on the highways are kept to right at 65, and I get nearly 21 on average.

If it helps, here's what I've done to the truck:
1- all synthetic fluids (Mobil-1), with Royal Purple in the transmission and differentials,
2- K&N replacement air filter (not the CAI kit),
3- I use no-ethanol gas whenever I can find it. Costs about $.30 more per gallon, but well worth it for overall performance,
4- light load in the back. I have a fiberglass canopy on it, but don't store too much inside, due to weight offsets.
5- keep it clean. I either wash it or get it washed every couple of weeks (less drag). Oddly enough, I have physically waxed it since new (used the carwash wax facilities).

I hope this helps. Good luck and keep us updated.

I just did a 170 mile trip... Keeping the CC set at 60, taking it easy and enjoyed the scenery, mostly level roads, I averaged 22.1 MPG. I noticed a 1.5 MPG jump on my last few trips since installing the Bakflip VP and K&N Filter.

I just went on a roughly 300 mile trip to Niagara Falls. The BS gauge inside said i was averaging 18.5 mpg, but doing the math i actually got 20.1.

I filled up before I left, and filled up 2 days later on Tuesday, at the same gas station that I always fill up at (every Tuesday is gas sale day) I had burned about a third of a tank.

Normally the BS gauge says I average between 18-19.5 mpg. My actual findings are 17.5-19, usually .5-.6 mg off from dash.

I thought this odd being so much higher.

Oh, I have a 2012 F-150 Ecoscrew with 11K on the clock. Another interesting fact, around 7,500 my average seemed to jump a whole 1 MPG. no change in driving habit's, or route.

I don't think so. 5 miles in cold weather is rough. It never (or just barely) gets to full operating temperature so it will be running inefficient. Get out on the highway.

The K & N filter or a Spectre filter does improve the MPG's

Mine stinks, 14.5 here in Ohio out of a 2012 5.0.
