I understand that police have a hard job, and deal with a lot of dirtbags, but not everyone is a dirtbag. What I have on my person or within my property is my business, and is up to my discretion as to who will find out. A police officer is just another person, and they do not NEED to know anything more than the rest of the general public does. There are bad cops out there just like people in every other profession, and that gun on my hip could save my life in the event that things go south, just as it could in any situation with any other person. No one, regardless of the job title they hold, is above me on my right to defend myself when necessary and my will to survive.
I disagree slightly with you on this one. I carry, and like you believe I have the right to do so. However, as a law abiding citizen with that right, if I am stopped by an officer obviously for breaking a law, then I believe as a responsible citizen I have the right to tell the officer I am carrying. Police officers are often put into stressful situations, even during routine traffic stops. They don't need nor want any surprises. If you are armed, and do not inform that officer, and he discovers you have a carry permit, you are putting doubt into his mind on why you may not have disclosed that. He does not know you are not a dirtbag or someone that may have snapped, in fact, he has no idea of your intent at all. Why put yourself and that officer in that situation? I simply hand him my licence and my carry permit. They will ask. I have been thanked more than once for doing this and have never been hassled. Not arguing, just giving my perspective.

Oh, and I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER leave a gun in my truck...EVER. That is pure stupidity...in my opinion.

Re read the states constitution from the link I posted, it clearly states now that "Any restriction on our right to be armed shall not be infringed"

A CCW IS a restriction thus the constitution was amended by the voters in Louisiana to remove that wording.

You DO NOT need a license to cc any more!

That part is where you are wrong.

Thats nothing, I always carry a gun IN A SAFE in my truck/car whether or not I have one physically on me. I was driving to a wedding and was in a suit so I didnt wear a gun on me but had my glock IN THE SAFE under my passenger seat..again it was IN A SAFE... I got pulled over for speeding, cop walked up I put my hands on the window and right away said I had a gun locked in my safe. The cop froze, put his hand on his gun (didnt draw it or flip the release) then had me get out of the truck and put me in cuffs so he could "secure" the weapon! He tried to "secure" it but needed MY finger prints to unlock the dang safe.... uncuffed me then recuffed me, apparently it was for my safety...

I think your over thinking it and confusing open carry with conceal carry. LA still offers CCW classes, if it wasn't required why have classes and CCW licenses?

That is partially correct.

I know the difference between open and concealed .

You would really only need to get a cc license if you wanted to obtain reciprocity in other states that you might wish to carry concealed in.

Here's a link for what states reciprocate cc license.
http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_ca...city_maps.html

In state conceal carry requires NO license.

Of course it is your right to inform the officer, i would never argue that point. If I ever get pulled over, I will give my license and CHL to him as well, and if he asks, I will most likely tell him that I am armed, but that does not mean that when he comes to my door that I have to give him anything and everything without question and tell him I have a gun on my person without being asked. It honestly depends on the attitude I am given by him. Just as they expect not to get attitude from me, and expect me to be respectful, I expect fully the same consideration from them. If they are approaching me with a poor attitude, I have to judge his intent just as he is judging mine in our interaction. For all I know, his wife could have just told him that she was banging his brother, and he might not be in the best state of mind, and could be looking for someone to take out his frustrations on. Regardless of who he is, that handgun could save my life if needed, and my life is quite important to me.

I will do what is required by law, and offer up the information required by law. beyond that it is a judgement call I have to make based on his/her actions.

Default Handgun in vehiclle

Recently I was discussing that subject with a local judge in NM. He said vehicle is an extension of the home. In NM, as long as the weapon is legal, you can carry in your vehicle.

Have had 6-8 traffic stops, I have had mixed reactions from LEOs when I hand them my CHL. From a simple, "just keep your hands where I can see them", to them taking weapon and removing mag.

These type of threads usually go in the direction this one has. This one has some that say "I'll carry my gun whenever, and however I want, ain't gonna tell the Police Officer, he/she don't need to know". Go ahead if you like, but if the Officer see's it, and you haven't told that Officer your going to loose the battle right then, and there. Those that have a CCW know that it will show up on the states vehicle registration site if the Officer runs the tag. They know they are required to place their hands on the steering wheel, and advise the Officer if a gun is present or not. If you don't have a CCW, and legally have a gun in your vehicle why not tell the Officer? It could save you the embarrassment of being measured for the steel bracelets.

Oh I forgot, some of you are so much smarter than that dumb ol' Police Officer. So, disregard what I said. But remember, unless you have lived the life you have no idea what it is to be a Law Enforcement Officer. SMDH
