I'm still trying to figure out why the heck you would want one so far away? But I'm sure you have your reasons. Is this something you want to unclip and then carry, or something to simply have access to? If access only, you could take a soft case, add velcro, and add velcro to back window wall.
Not really for protection, but for snakes, other varmints. We camp a lot and have had run ins. Dont want to pack a 9mm where I cant get to quick so I figured a cheap 22 hand gun thats hidden. I am in TX so its almost all year round for who knows what.
I have 2011 F150, and have a CCW I got some of those gun magnets and stuck one on the drivers door below the switches for the windows etc. it holds my S&W M&P 40 cal. The magnets are called 2A-for life. The problem e-mail is, care@2aforlife.com with a phone no. 801-528-6877 that's the help line but bet they could direct you to the right no. the magnets are pretty strong I put my weapon on and slammed the door really hard the gun never fell off. the sticky tape let loose after a few months so I screwed it to the panel (I hate doing that but it worked) Also being left handed works really well for me. The gun is out of sight pretty much, I like it.
For your application I'd get a belt holster. Inside waistband (iwb) or outside waistband (owb) will work great.
I once knew a friend that owned a gun that was lost in a boating accident and my friend carried his gun on his hip at camp.
If you're already at camp, from what I hear, you'll what your firearm secure and with you, ready for its intended use.
If you're thinking purely transportation and you don't care if it's within reach, then pack it unloaded, in its case, and in a bag somewhere.
If you're thinking transportation and protection, then behind the back seat is not the way to go.
If you're thinking transportation and not concealed, because you don't have a CCW, that's another story.
If you're thinking transportation and concealed, because you have a CCW or its not necessary in your state to have one, that's another story.
Again, be specific. There are literally books written on this subject. There are very good options, but depending on very specific uses, the answer will differ.

Get a .22 revolver with rat shot for snakes and rodents. As for holster, you can zip tie one under the front seat for easy access or place behind drivers side rear seat.
I have a Vaultek Slider under the passenger seat. I went with the Colin Noir version which comes with the car mount kit so I have a cable to secure it. If you went with a different version you would probably want to get the optional kit. I have a remote button to open it and I can reach it from the driver's seat. Now I carry something a bit bigger than a .22 in there but there are lots of options for what goes inside the vault. It has room for one handgun and a spare mag.
