I think chevy is the same as dodge. I've been a Ford man my whole life and haven't been sorry. I have a 2000 F150 that's my daily drive. As long as you keep up with the maintenance it will give you a long life. Mine is pushing 180K and going strong.

OK, I just got back from Iraq and went to the dealership and got a new 08 FX4, the only blue one on the lot. Never test drove one till that day. I've had these in this order (cars in there just to keep me stright)
76 datsun B210
79 mustang ghia 302 4spd
81 I-6 4spd traded in the the next one
78 f150 351 auto full time 4x4 (got totaled by a drunk driver bought the next one)
79 f150 400 4x4 auto, traded in on the next one
79 bronco ranger custom xlt 400 4x4 4spd. with factory headers!!
73 torino sport (351c 4spd) paid 50 bucks for it!!
69 f100 s/b 390 4spd (3/4 ton)
89 mustang gt conv 302 5spd.
86 mustang gt 302 F/I 5spd
94 Ranger NEW x-cab 4.0 xlt 4x4 (caught fire, bought the next 78)
81 mustang I-6 auto ( for the x wife)
78 f150 4x4 300 I-6 auto, 6in lift and 40x17x15's on factory rims????(bought it that way)
79 bronco 4x4 460 auto
77 f150 351 4x4 4spd
96 mustang GTS 4.6 5spd(1 of 1800 made)(crank windows, no a/c, no rear defrost, am/fm radio, no cruise) Just plain FAST....TOTALED missin a deer two weeks after getting it from the shop having the cobra hood and headlights, tires and rims installed....I cried!!! insurance bought the next
97 mustang gt 4.6 5spd
96 Explorer(had kids)
99 Expedition 5.4 eddie bauer 4x4 AWD
78 f150 400 auto 4x4 s/b (in my pics after the rebuild)
89 mustang gt 5.0 5spd (wifes 2nd anv gift)
87 f150 I-6(bought and sold the same day for 500 more than I paid for it)
93 mustang gt 5.0 5spd (mine to drag race instead of her's, lol)
07 escape v6 auto (for the wife, got rid of the terrcel)
08 f150 FX4 5.4 auto 4x4
OK, my view... I like the nose for the chevy, sorta like the buldged fenders too, really like the rear locker, seat are plush, but too plush that it makes my back hurt after riding in them, I love that the ford seems to always do MORE with LESS..... they have 350, we do the same with 281... same with the sports cars, they run 350 with 6spd.. we keep up with 281 and 5spd???? cheaper to insure (nice for the younger and older crowd) I like the solid front bumper, not 3 peices. I like that Ford has ALWAYS built the truck to work like a truck.... even the KR can still be used like a truck....all be a costly one!! The int is nice but simple and well laid out. could fix lil things like the heat on the drivers feet (i'm working on that one) all of the truck works well. fit and finish in spots could be better (two peice wiper cowl design stinks, but fixable) seats could be better, but haven't been a issue as of yet. wish the color combos were better. I've had TONS of trucks as you've seen, I'm loyal to the brand since forever... and things here recently have made it even more so when THEY backed out of a bail out to fix themselves..got to say something for a company that's known for being tuff with trucks.
buyer of, lover of and part owner of....through stocks, lol..and always will be!!

Ford: A little more room but falls in the looks department. Cheaper on the price

Chevy: More expensive but where the cost is it heads for interior looks and exterior styling. they are also alot easier to mod when it comes to cam swaps with corvette engines.

Guys
Got my truck back in June of 08&havent regretted it.This thing is a workhorse for me.I could have opted for a chevy silverado or something else but I read the reviews online&saw the vids on you tube,"The Truth About Trucks"&became a Ford F150 convert.Got my truck for 10K&LOW miles!I am impressed with some of the other competitions that are out there&these trucks look nice.
If you go to many construction sites what trucks do you see?You see Fords for the most part.Yes there are others but Ford has been making trucks for a mighty long time.I expect my truck to last well over a 100k miles&yes,I am a perfectionist when it comes to maintenance. All the vehicles that i owned thru the years aside from trucks, lasted well over 100K.Why?routine maintenance. Not all of us are rich&with this economy, you have to stretch your dinero.
I never even considered getting a Dodge, these trucks look ugly to me.I like following the leaders&Ford is it for me.Dont believe me?Do your homework.Look how Fords are built. My truck was built in Virginia&NOT timbukto someplace!God bless America!BUY AMERICAN!Go F150!!...Pete

Truth be told, I think they're all pretty ugly.

I have owned many of these trucks as fleet vehicles; everything from 1/2 ton to Medium Duty, diesel and gas, 4x4 and 4x2, Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan, etc.

My personal thoughts are that Ford's gas 4.6 and 5.4 are pretty wimpy, but they last a very long time compared to chevy and dodge's offerings. But chevy does still have that 8.1L that is a torque monster. Diesels are another story. 12v Cummins trumps them all in my opinion. Duramax is great but some of them have injector problems. Certainly not enough to prevent me from buying one, but its something to consider. Ford's 7.3 is right up there in my book too.

Chevy does a really good job with ergonomics. Their seats suck for my body type but many folks love them. I do have a problem with Chevy's track record of little annoying failures. My 04 Dmax has those electric extending tow mirrors that fail after about 10 times of using them. They have cheap little plastic gears that break if you sneeze on them. My stereo has started always playing CD#3 when you turn the key on regardless of what you were listening to last. A few of the pixels in the odometer display are dying, and the power seat button is tricky. Just annoying as hell. I had a 99 F150 that I finally sold with 314k on it. The upholstery was still fair with only one tiny tear, the steering wheel was in great shape, the doors all still sealed, and it didn't burn any oil. The stereo and tape deck still worked despite a decade of using the tape deck as an input for my MP3 and CD player. The tranny was getting pretty weak. It flared a lot between 2-3 shifts.

I never kept a dodge for very long. I have no reason to suspect their mechanicals aren't great, but I just didn't like the truck. The plasticky interior panels, the squeaks and rattles, the low MPG for the power you get... just not a fan. I would own one to get the Cummins, though.

I don't care where your truck is built. If a japanese truck suits you better, get one. The truth is that a very large portion of the money you spend for your Ford goes overseas anyway. Ford actually sends more money to foreign countries than Honda does. If you buy an American-built Accord you are keeping more money here than if you buy an F150.... and Honda won't use it to buy another corporate jet.

For me, the perfect truck is an F250 with a Cummins 12v, chevy ergonomics, Ford's build quality, and Toyota's bulletproof electronics.

I think people's loyalty is based on what part of a truck they value the most. If you want a pretty truck that gets the ladies, you would buy a completely different truck from the guy who delivers pizza, or from the guy who tows a 12,000 lb gooseneck. I got a 98 F150 XL because I needed a long-lived truck that I don't mind scratching up and using as a truck. I also have a beater truck I use for getting firewood and working around the farm. That one is a 77 chevy 3/4 ton with the inline 6. Parts are insanely cheap, its super easy to fix, and there is nothing that can happen to it that a trip to a junkyard won't fix for under $100

Not anymore, they discontinued that motor a year or two ago... maybe three. The biggest you can get now is the 6.0L

Ford: top rated reliability for a full size truck by Consumer Reports (only the Toyota with V6 engine rates higher).

Ford: 3/4 ton truck like capabilities in a 1/2 ton truck.
