If the tow mirrors are optional, the EPA test would likely still be done with the standard mirrors, right?

I still can't think of a reason that makes sense why they would do this. I've been holding out hope that it's a mistake in both B&P and the order guide. If they're hoping to sell more Powerboosts, getting rid of one of the more popular options probably isn't a great way to do it.

They don’t want you to tow with them. They continue to turn towards the modern day family station wagon and if you want to tow your being pushed into a Super Duty.

They don’t have different EPA mileage ratings for all combinations, for instance: a truck with 3.31 gears gets the same mileage rating as a truck with 3.73s, but they do have to take the mix of options into account when they come up with a number.

I’m not an authority on fuel economy testing but, it’s my understanding that, let’s say towing mirrors reduce mpg by 1 mpg and let’s say 30% of a certain model are equipped with them, then the mpg rating for that model gets reduced by 3/10 gallon.

Which is significant, particularly if 1/10 of a difference happens to be enough to round the epa number up or down by 1 mpg.

By the way,
I understand a couple tenths of a mpg is NOT significant to us owners but,
it is very significant to the automakers.

(My current one is a Loaded 701 A/ Moonroof ect.)
So to you, a truck is only a "luxury truck" if it has 22" wheels?

Damn my Platinum High isn't a luxury truck because it only has peasant 20" wheels from the factory.

That is what is frustrating and it is now worse for '24.

My XLT stickered for $51K back in 2018. My dealer had $14K in incentives and Ford threw in an additional $3K in "Conquest Cash". So I paid less than $35K for my truck. Which was an awesome deal but $12-14K off was pretty common at that time. A similar '24 would run over $60K actual cost and much of that is because of the way Ford is forcing the option packages. That's a big hell no from me. I'll drive what I have into the ground before I spend that much on a pickup. This may come as a surprise to some of you, but pickups didn't used to cost eye-watering money and were still able to do real work. And it wasn't that long ago!

OK that's enough ranting. I'm just frustrated because I love my truck but I'm not going to pay that kind of money for one. It's not a matter of being able to afford it either, it's a matter of simply not being worth it. Thankfully the kids will start leaving the house soon so I won't really need one anymore.
$51,000 in 2018 is equal to $61,400 in 2024.

It's amazing how consistent this is.

This may come as a shock to you, but the trucks don't cost more, your dollar is worth less...it's 100% inflation.

Elections have consequences.

It is a crime and a sin that you can not order an xlt with a black appearance or sport as well as losing heated seats. The STX doesn’t provide enough for all the XLT buyers and the XLT has been the prominent trim forever. What idiots! I may be in the market in the next year or so and buying new. Sadly I may have to look elsewhere and expect many tigers will be doing the same. Ford clearly isn’t paying attention with this move and is solely focused on moving trims up in cost.

I believe they're also focused on simplifying production and optimizing CAFE.

That’s good and all but if they want to simplify trims at less of the most common configurations people buy that include specific features. They have the data to use it’s. Not like it’s a shot in the dark. They also have competitor info to use. Why would they take out sport package and or black appearance on an xlt trim? This is their volume trim sold. They are tearing the STX like an xlt trim but without heated seats and a few other things. I don’t see competitors doing this. Seems like they think they won’t lose much market share and just do whatever the hell they want at this point including charging a lot more while giving you less.

I’ve been a die hard ford guy and still have my 2013 I ordered years ago that I daily. I’m nearing replacement at some point and will check out other offerings at this point based on these changes.

Apparently 2023 Rattlers do exist, but I've never seen one, and am not seeing any sign of them in 2024.

Yes you can, the bap and sport package have been combined. The 302a package adds heated seats and the 303a package adds leather.
