That's a big deal if you ask me....really big. If Roush determined the viscous mustang damper was a necessary part of the kit then perhaps we should all be looking at the upgrade? Its also interesting the Roush kit has the A/C pulley swapped for the one out of the 2.7l ecoboost. I checked part numbers and they cost roughly the same, and I'm not sure how they differ.

As an aside, it looks like Roush finally started using the 56lb injectors on their truck kits.

Yes, see my post #8 in this thread.

I learned from someone smarter than me that one disadvantage of the rubber strip style damper is that the rubber heats up and changes the characteristics of the damper. The fluid damper doesn’t heat up and change as much under sustained high rpm.

It is. yes. I wish i didn't miss this conversation but that's one of the big differences is it's similar to an ATI dampener, it's a fluid dampener.

We also are going to order one for my friend 18 5.0 truck for peace of mind.

Make sure to order a bolt too. I'm pretty sure they are one time use.

So I am pretty sure it's still early in the decision process on this one, but it sure seems like the more the smart people discuss this topic, the more it sounds like the 18 GT Dampener might be a desired upgrade? Since my OPGs are getting ready to be done probably next week or so... for $150 I am thinking I might have them put the GT one back on.

The tipping point was the comment about Roush putting them in their 18 kits. I know this maybe permature, but does anyone think doing the GT dampener at this point would be a mistake.

Maybe give Roush a call and see why the decision was made to use the '18gt damper?

Looking at the pictures of the F150 and Mustang there appears to be fewer grooves on the rear of the F150 pulley. I looked at my truck and rear belt that drives the AC is narrower. So it might not be a direct bolt on. That belt was NOT removed during the install.

I need to find a 2.7 F150 and look at the belt configurations on it. Just for kicks I looked up the crank pulley for the 18 GT-350 that revs to over 8K and it appears to have a cheaper more conventional crank pulley like the F150s. So figure that one out.

That must be why you have to swap out the A/C pulley with the Roush kit.

Maybe...But there are also a tensioner and idler that look to be for a narrow too. I'll get some shots from the top of those. Perhaps Roush drives everything with a single belt?
