Hmmm....well I guess I already hijacked this thread, and perhaps you're not talking to me, but, there wasn't a problem. I merely (after listening to all the internet racing gurus) thought a superdamper would be a good preventative measure. Turns out since I'm not bouncing off the limiter or anything like that, it's probably unnecessary. The other thing is on a '13, the blower belt is the closest one to the timing chain cover anyway, so perhaps there would be less of a need to start with. I don't pretend to know all that much really, just regurgitating the stuff I hear from the experts.

And if your post wasn't for me.....nevermind…..

I think he was referencing a quote from a Ford Engineer that stated an aftermarket damper was once linked to some gears failing, as it aggravated the harmonics issue. However, Ford also stated the ATI dampers are good, but they would not name the bad damper (my guess was MMR or Innovators West).

Torsional and lateral harmonics are nasty and complicated beasts. If you grossly over-simplified it, you could say it’s a spring-mass-damper system. That said, adding or subtracting mass or damping (assuming we aren’t going to play with the stiffness of the system) could make the problem better or worse. I would venture to say that very few folks in the country can accurately model a system like this and design a damper that will make things better. Everything else is just guess-n-check. I wouldn’t even assume the ‘18 mustang damper is a sure-fire upgrade because of the firing order difference, though I would give it a higher chance of success than aftermarket.

Pulled the part number and cost for the Mustang pulley vs. the F150 pulley. There is a significant difference in cost.

Is it just me or do you see a rubber strip (conventional design) in the truck damper but none in the car damper?

I noticed that too...The F150 looks like the one off my 52 year old Corvette.

FordParts.com had some slightly better pictures of the parts.

First the Mustang.

This is interesting it looks like the Roush F-150 kit uses the mustang balancer if you look at the parts list it has the 2018 mustang balancer included with the kit

I would be very surprised if there's no bearing or camshaft damage from low or no oil pressure!!

Isn't the new Mustang damper a fluid-damper? They call it a viscous damper, but my interpretation is fluid damper of some sort.
