Yep. Cause unknown yet but OPG’s are a safe bet.

This is the reason I wouldn't supercharge an engine without building up at least the lower half 1st.

JSEDECKER pointed out in the Whipple thread, he was running a 3.25" pulley. He had to be running over 15lb. of boost with E85. Hardly the typical Whipple setup.

Yea...his plan from the start was to push the limits. He’s been running more boost and higher rpm than anyone else I’ve seen. The average guys like most of us have very little to worry about.

He thinks the damage to the OPG started when he put the electric cutout on. When opened at the track it caused the engine to hit the rev limiter a few times.

He said the damage is minor. He had L&M check it out and it is just a few hundred dollars in parts.

He’ll be back in the saddle soon.

Great to hear!....Hope he's monetized on YouTube, maybe the can get them pay for the repairs.

Not your typical click bait for sure, or he is the best actor on the planet.

For those of you playing at home OPG, stands for Oil Pump Gear. I had to look it up myself.

According to ford, the opg failures are a harmonics issue. I don’t think the f-150 got the fluid damper like the mustang did in 2018. If that’s the case, his power and rpm level on stock opg’s and non-viscous damper all contributed. I wonder if it would have failed if he was running the mustang damper. It’s only about $150 from ford. The whipple Stage 2 on the 2018 mustang shifts around 7400.

That said, I don’t think anyone has broken 2018 bottom end parts (block crank rods pistons) at power levels under 1000 rwhp yet, so it seems 600-800 are pretty safe. This is pretty insane if you think about it.

The best lesson learned for me in this, first indications of low oil pressure, shut the damn thing off.

I was cringing watching that, he should have known from the start when the low oil light kicked on...WHY KEEP IT RUNNING? Like nails on a chalkboard, all the while little bits of metal are making the rounds through his oiling system. Time will tell if there was any lasting damage.

For 2018 the F150 got a different set of OPG's from what I know, and the gears are no longer the same as the Mustangs. I knew they were different from 2011 to 2014, then the same for 2015-2017, and now they are different again. I'd like to know why Ford keeps changing the gears around. I had just grown comfortable in my decision to not install gears on my 2016, now this video has spiked my anxiety again. But his truck is a totally different platform, and if he was hitting the rev limiter as posted above, that would explain everything as its my understanding that smacking the limiter is the fastest way to kill the gears. I think Shaun with AED has stated he puts a soft limiter in place on all his tunes to protect the OPG's.

I'm sure he will be back and running with a vengeance after the repairs.
