If the gate is open its 2 seconds to pull the step out. I rarely use the bar. Or you can step up on the bumper, it's not that much higher than that notch and I hate the look of GMs notch. Fugly.

We are all entitled to our opinion. Mine is that extremely convenient function trumps "fugly". I used mine for 14 years and much prefer it to the deploying step.

The bumper step becomes useless when you add larger tires and or lift/level the truck. The tailgate step is lower than the bumper when deployed.

I lamented this fact the first time I pulled my big trailer (jack interferes with tailgate), but quickly realized the trailer tongue is about the same height as the tailgate step. Applied some no-slip tape behind the tongue, turned it into a non-issue.

Only have a 1" spacer on the front and 33s on mine, so that argument is worthless to me. I am pretty sure I could still use a bumper step with 35s and I would never go bigger than that.

If you like stepping up that high, you shouldn't need any step at all. Just step up the extra 3" onto the bumper.

I know I would use the hell out of the tailgate step.
For me though, this is the best. Effortlessly deploys and retracts. I would put this on, even if my truck came with the tailgate step. Third truck in a row with the 502a package. and no tailgate step.. that kills me.
I'm sure I'd get used to turning around to step down with a notched bumper. I think that's another win for the tailgate and the retractable bumper step.

It also blends in surprisingly well. Most people don't even see it. Even knowing it's there, I don't notice it.

Already stated earlier that I rarely use the tailgate step, unless I know I will be loading/unloading and getting in and out of the bed multiple times. I simply hold onto the edge of the bed rail and hop up onto the lowered tailgate. I'm 59 but I'm not decrepit yet. 😁

But if I had a corner bumper step I would still use it as a convenient halfway point before stepping onto the tailgate. If you have never owned a vehicle with one you have no clue how convenient they are. I did, for 14 years, and used it every time.
