Default Tailgate step

My uncle runs a salvage yard and said he has a tailgate to a wrecked 16 F-150. The tailgate is the wrong color, but i was wondering if i could remove the tailgate step and if it will be compatable with my 2018 (My 18 doesn't have the step). It seems logical that everything would transfer, but I am not sure. Has anybody done this swap before?

I would trade my 18 tail gate with the step for one without the step lol

The step will not fit your tailgate but a repaint on the one with the step would not be to expensive.
Since I just turned 22 about 50 years ago I won't have a truck without it. I would never be able to get in the bed.

Wanna trade? I live in Florida. I am thinking that you would not have to replace the full tailgate, just the top and insides? I am trying to confirm this. If this is the case, i will be happy to buy your tailgate insides and cover and send you my cover. Let me know.

I'm pretty sure the insides are not compatible. You have to swap the entire tailgate.

Yeah, I have the Geezer step also. I like it. My uneducated guess would be that the insides are not compatible. YMMV

Have a shop paint it for a few hundred dollars. I wouldn't mind the geezer step.

Both the inner and outer panels are different on the models with the tailgate step than the ones without. You have to replace the whole tailgate.

This ^
When i was looking at trucks at a Ford dealership, i spotted one with everything i wanted but it didn't have a tailgate step, an option i had to have..
The sales guy and i went over to the service desk and asked the service mngr. if it could be added to that truck.
Nope, have to replace the entire tailgate and then paint it.
The two tail gates are entirely different.
