I installed one of these. It's practical and works well especially for the price. The only drawback is that it blocks your tailgate flat space when loading something and want to put it on the tailgate and slide it in. But it's better than no step.

At almost 65, I wouldn't trade my tailgate step for anything. I mainly use it for a seat when I put my waders on to go surf fishing.
Get a lot of "I wish I had one of those"

This has been discussed in another tread and according to people that have looked into it the tailgate step has extra bracing inside to strengthen it and you can't take the step assembly out of one and install into the other.

I may have to get one of those cheap ladder one's myself. LOL.
I really would like those powered steps that go all the way to just in front of the rear wheel and then a kick-down step on each corner of the back bumper. Too much money though.

You're most welcome. Either one is money well spent! Especially if it involves a good deal.

I could offer some advice, that would be to coat the powder coated arm's with fluid film. They take a lot tire spray (unless you have mud flaps) and I've seen both with some flaking down the road. It took years for the Bestop one to flake, but I know I could've prevented it.

The thicker bars are 1" square tube.

GMs bumper notch is kinda silly I think. Just a couple more inches and you can reach the bumper. I would rather have an amp step than that silly notch.
I've owned both, and each has its benefits and shortcomings. The corner bumper step is much more convenient as it is always ready, with no deployment necessary. The tailgate step works great when used as a ramp to load large deer by yourself! I generally don't deploy my tailgate step unless I know I will be getting in and out of the bed multiple times. I just jump in from the corner of the bed while holding onto the top edge of the bedside. By contrast, I always used the bumper step to get into the bed of my Avalanche.

Did it use aluminum screws? Steel will eat that aluminum in short order.

We all have a lower step that doesn't need deployed. The center of our bumper works great for a quick in the bed reach. Seems everyone forgot about that.
