Default Sync rant

Overall, I love this truck (‘19 F150), loved my ‘12 F350... but sync sucks! The chevy interface system in my Camaro works so much better, easier, etc. I have wasted a couple of hours trying to get Apps to work, only to learn CarPlay has to be turned off??? Why?!? Wasn’t explained anywhere (disabling CarPlay) that I could find until I searched on here.

And why can’t I access the dang Nav system when my phone is plugged in? Just goes to Apple maps when I select maps on the screen...

It's not Ford, it's Apple and the way car play works. I turned off my car play for the same reason. All carplay is a mirror of the phone. If you to in to setting, second screen, there car play, just turn it off.

Hmmm... Don't have any of these issues with CarPlay in my Camaro, so don’t think it’s an Apple issue.

I just press the “home” button to go back to the cars “system” and can use maps, apps, etc without turning off CarPlay.

I know the Audi I rented a couple of months ago for work had the same issue. I know that both Audi and Ford use the QNX system, it could be something with their version of QNX or an agreement for Apple. I am renting a car on Friday, I will find out if that car does the same thing as well.

Same goes for our Acura. The Acura navigation is a simple button away while CarPlay keeps on keepin' on. If you want to be annoyed you could even choose to have both the Acura nav and Waze burping out directions at the same time.

Oh, and figure this..... I can even listen to Bluetooth music on one phone and using Waze via CarPlay simultaneously on another!! Gasp......

All of the above applied to a Nissan rental we had last week while on vacation as well.

Edit: I am an IOS user.

Once again so glad I have Android. Works like a charm with Sync 3

I thought pressing the Ford Icon returns you to the Ford system without turning CP off.

I'm an Apple user for many reasons that I won't discuss here but in my opinion Ford's Sync 3 is simply "glitchy" compared to the competitors. Even without phone use at all.

Since new I've always dealt with slow start up times, occasional "backup camera not available" messages, black screens, etc. Still happy that I have Sync, but I can't deny that it's not as polished as my wife's TLX. Granted, 2017 was fairly early to the CarPlay scene so I do need to give Ford some credit for that.

It does, but then Ford maps won’t work and touching “Map” on the screen takes you back to CarPlay and Apple maps.
