Sync 3 V2.3 Update
If you have not already, make sure your computer doesn't go into 'sleep' mode while downloading the file. The file download size was 1.1 GBs and it took about 35 minutes to complete with my fiber connection. If you computer goes idle during the download it can potentially cause problems with the file.
Update over wifi takes FOREVER, and I think it's ridiculous that Ford wants me to IDLE the vehicle for "at least 60 minutes" for the update. Tried downloading on owner.ford.com, returns the error:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

Tried Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge browsers. All 3 return the same error. Chatting with the representative now, she says this:
"Meghan says:
Thanks for your patience. This particular error has been reported to our IT team, who is working on the fix at this time. We do not have an ETA, but you an continue to try every couple of hours if you'd like. As far as the WiFi automatic update, that is designed to install in smaller bits over a one month time frame. This would require a strong WiFi signal and it must be connected before turning the engine off. You will not receive a notification when the installation has started, only after it has completed the entire process."
I said this:
" Thanks for the advice. I have the truck running in the driveway connected to a strong wifi with a strong internet connection, it has been idling for 2 hours, still trying to upgrade. Is there a way to send feedback to Ford on this requirement? I think it's a bit ridiculous for them to require me to waste a LOT of gas idling a 5.0 V-8 engine in my drive way for "at least an hour" according to their instructions."
She said this:
" I definitely understand the frustration and will be sure to pass along your feedback. The USB installation process can take up to an hour. If you have enabled Automatic System Updates, and have SYNC 3 connected to Wi-Fi, the system is designed to periodically check for updates and download your update in the background. A Wi-Fi signal strength of 3 or 4 bars (full strength) with reliable internet service will typically allow SYNC 3 to download the update within a one month timeframe. SYNC 3 is designed to perform the update as long as Wi-Fi is connected prior to the vehicle turning off, therefore there is no need to keep your vehicle running for the update to take place."
Guess I will abandon the wifi method, and try the computer/usb download process once they get the link fixed. Thinking about calling the EPA about Ford's "MUST HAVE THE VEHICLE RUNNING" process haha

I've never had luck with the OTA update directly to the truck. The last update I did on my prior 2015 XLT was performed by the dealer because the update kept failing. If all else fails you could try your dealer to see if they will perform the update for you under warranty...
Today I decided to give up on waiting for the truck to update itself and I went to the download to USB method. Was seamless and easy. Haven't noticed and differences yet but I haven't looked for anything either.
I reported my experience on the other thread:

Ford Sync is really pain in the *** to say at the least. My Wi-Fi download only worked for the first half year or so then it will go in loops for forever, never end in searching for updates, until I am running out of patients and turning the bleeping thing off. Neither cellphone hotspot nor home Wi-Fi router worked. I can’t perform mobile app update either, it will also go to a no ending loop… how frustrated!
That said, I updated my 2016 Platinum from 1.0 to 2.2 using USB successfully. I was lucky. This time I updated from 2.2 to 2.3 using USB method with lots of trouble. First of all, it took more than 2 minutes for the system to show the “Updating System Software” message on the top of the screen after I pluged in the USB. Then I drove 45 min to work and it was still updating. I stayed in the work parking lot for another 10 min and eventually turned the bleeping thing off. If it needs near an hour to update it must be something wrong. Come at lunch time, I popped in another new USB thumb drive with the V2.3 files and it did nothing. Finally, I did a soft reset (Power + >|) and once it completed the reboot, I found the Software was updated to 2.3 Build 17109….
I don’t want to rip Ford like this but something must be done to it’s quality control and customer service and dealer service. I read that there are so many different problems from different users and this should be properly controlled by Ford for the America’s #1 selling truck.

Hi fellow owners,
I tried several times to get the file to download, but the site always reads
I don't have time to get to a dealership to update; does anyone have the update file they would be willing to share with me? However I can get it, via the post response or via PM.
Thank guys and MERRY CHRISTMASS to you all!

Do you have version 2.0 already? If so, stop wasting your time and stressing over the update. I just went through the trouble and indeed got the update installed and am noticing absolutely nothing has changed. I’m sure something has changed, and others may elaborate, but nothing I’ve noticed.
If you really want the update all I can suggest is to keep trying to download it. I just stayed persistent for a few days and finally got it. I would like to think that if the update were important Ford would try harder to make is an easier process.
