Sync 3 Technical Discussion
It took an unbelievable amount of digging to find this bit of news. Sygic is waiting for Apple at this point. Their carplay update has apparently been submitted for approval.

This morning, I brought in my thumb drive and went to report the update as instructed. It should have taken me to the prompt to insert the drive to download the the results of the update. Instead, it went back to the page telling me I have a software update available to 3.0.
Even if you no longer have the file on the thumb drive, you can do a WiFi update (as flyinghappy indicated) and it does the same thing.
I assume you are running Spotify from a smart phone, and BT linking it from there.
I would start with where the Spotify app lives...
Yes.
A factory reset wipes ALL personal and configured info - making it just like like new.... a blank slate.
I called customer service for help to get the update recorded on their website, and the person I talked to said there is a problem with the update and that I shouldn't do it, but rather, take the truck to a Ford dealer for the update.
I told the representative if there is a problem with the download, they should take it off of the website. He offered no help from Ford because of this problem and told me that it would be up to me to pay the dealer for any repair charges since the dealerships are all independently owned.

The only failure you have, so far, is not being able to upload the XML file to report your current version info.
I've done 3 updates from v1.0 and v2.2 in the last month.
All went perfect. Even the first one - when I though it was all effed up.
I just wasn't patient enough.
Hey all,
I've been scouring the net with my sh**ty googlefu trying to figure out a problem I'm having. '18 F150 Lariat with NAV. I upgraded to Sync 3, v3.0 from 2.3 via USB off of the myford website about two weeks ago. No error messages, and seemed like install went seamlessly.
However... ever since doing the update, I've had no GPS signal (GPS with red circle and slash in lower left corner of nav page). When I enter diagnostic mode it shows no info for satellite signal strength or centering, and all 0s and blanks in the satellite info. However, my compass still works (not sure if compass uses GPS) because I can see my truck's direction change on the map.
Was I supposed to get a different NAV specific file that maybe the ford website didn't give me? Or is the sync 3.0 official update the same for Nav and non-nav? I looked at the file sizes for the unofficial updates and also saw that there were non-nav and nav versions, and was kind of surprised at how small the official file size was in comparison. Maybe the official update doesn't touch NAV files from 2.3, or maybe the official build starts assuming a higher baseline of software versus the unofficials?

So I've been trying to figure out what's going on and I've still got a few issues with Sync 3.0.
First is the GPS/Android Auto connection failing - If I enable system wifi connections, and park it at my house, connected to my network over night, they both fail to work the next morning.
When I start the car up several hours later, GPS is disabled (red line through GPS), android auto will not run, and diagnostic mode on the head unit shows no satellite info. Sirius works fine, and the car shows some updates on NAV but quickly puts me out to sea.
I can fix the GPS and Android Auto by doing a quick reboot (power plus right seek for several seconds) and that fixes it, but I have to do it EVERY time I connect to my network. Or, the alternative, is to leave system wifi connections disabled. Which isn't super big of a deal, but seems like I have something broken if I can't do that.
The second issue is when I turn the car off with my android device connected. When I turn the car back on without my phone connected, it forgets my preference to run pandora or any other media device and reverts back to Satellite radio. I wouldn't mind, except now my satellite radio subscription expired, and it has that annoying pop up that requires multiple taps to get past to my sources. I'm about ready to disable satellite radio in forscan, even if it kills the traffic updates for my nav.
Has anyone else had similar problems?

Trying to update from 17276 to 18093 and tried as much as i could looking through al 62 pages anyone have a good guide on what i need to do? every time i put my USB in it shows nothing dont know if anything ive tried actually did anything
I was able to update mine from Sync3 v2.3 to 3.0, 18093 using the usb. I downloaded the files onto the computer, then unzipped them and loaded the unzipped files onto the drive. Plugged the drive in and waited. And waited. And waited. After several minutes, it finally started on its own, and took about 15-20 minutes to update. At the end, the update was not showing as applied right away. I had to turn the vehicle off and let it set for a few minutes before the update actually showed as applied and the correct build. Hope that helps.

I just bought a 2016 Platinum F150 last week, and in getting to know the truck I found that Sync 3 was running ver 1.0. Drove the truck home from dealer (3hour drive) and it worked perfectly. Got onto the Ford owners web site and found out that there was an update for my truck. So I downloaded the zip file for 3.0, build 18039. Following the instructions I formatted a 32GB thumbdrive, and unzipped the download onto the thumb drive. Ended up with the SyncMyRide folder, the autoinstall.lst file, and the dontindx.msa file. So then I went out and did the upgrade according to directions including shutting the truck off/letting it sit for abt 10 min then restarting and eventually ended up with an Upgrade Complete message. And that is when the problems began. The system will randomly reboot, (screen goes blank for abt 10 seconds, then the Ford oval shows up, and then Sync loads) If you leave it alone, it may work for 1 minute or 20 minutes without rebooting. BUT, if you start pressing "buttons" like Settings/anything and you can be assured of a reboot within a few seconds. I have seen the post where the smart guys have figured out on the non-nav units a 2step load that takes a thumbdrive and loads just one of the tarballs first, and then takes a second thumbdrive and loads the remaining files. But that is for the non-nav version. I'm grasping at straws right now, but am wondering if something like that for Nav versions would work to get a clean load. Truck has 55k miles so is out of warranty, which means if I have to go to dealer to get it loaded, it's going to cost $$. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

first try a true reboot (disconnect a battery terminal). If that doesn't work try making a USB with a different version of sync and have it plugged in when you boot the system. If it tells you you already have the latest version then we'll have to modify the USB to install the system only

thanks Acool. Went out and disconnected battery for a few minutes, when I re-connected the bat and started system up, still had the same issues of rebooting whenever I tried to do something. Then took the only ver 2.2 source that I have been able to find and went thru the upgrade procedure; formatted thumdrive, unpacked zip files to thumbdrive, plugged into truck, started truck up. When system recognized the thumbdrive was installed it said that an upgrade was available, but when it tried to begin the upgrade, I got an "installation failed" message. I was kind of expecting a msg that indicated I had a newer version already. I then went to the About Sync tab and it still shows Sync 3 Version 3.0 Build 18093
Turned on Auto-Update yesterday. Then did a manual check for updates, and for the first time since February 2018 ( when i got the truck), it downloaded the update, and auto installed it. System now on 3.0 build 18093, and Gracenote Version 1.1.1.1139 (NA-0010).
Much less work then the manual USB update I did in July.
