Sync 3 Technical Discussion
thanks Acool. Went out and disconnected battery for a few minutes, when I re-connected the bat and started system up, still had the same issues of rebooting whenever I tried to do something. Then took the only ver 2.2 source that I have been able to find and went thru the upgrade procedure; formatted thumdrive, unpacked zip files to thumbdrive, plugged into truck, started truck up. When system recognized the thumbdrive was installed it said that an upgrade was available, but when it tried to begin the upgrade, I got an "installation failed" message. I was kind of expecting a msg that indicated I had a newer version already. I then went to the About Sync tab and it still shows Sync 3 Version 3.0 Build 18093
VANTEER was the lucky one that got a WiFi download to complete, C130fe is still fighting with trying to get a USB install to work
Acool: Was out driving around today and any screen that I pushed a GUI icon, it would seem to reboot. I finally got it to the NAV page and it seemed to stay on that page the rest of the day. When I pulled in the driveway I tried selecting Settings -> General and then it immediately went blank. Waited abt 2 minutes and then did a manual reset by hitting the power+right seek buttons.. System rebooted, managed to get it to Home page before I powered down.

Try again to downgrade
example, don't copy the example exactly because your filename may be different:

Thanks Acool. I am going to have to go back through this thread and some of the others to get more details on the various issues and workarounds you guys have found. A lot more going on than I had realized!
Success Acool !, followed those instructions and I am now running version 2.2
The update happened pretty quickly and rebooted automatically. Spent several minutes just pushing buttons, moving from one screen to the next with no problems

I'm still chasing the problems of an unsuccessful upgrade from Sync3 ver 1.0 to ver 3.0, and am looking for some help from the brain trust of this forum. Immediately following the update, using the zipped file that I got from the owners.ford site, the screen became very unstable and would go blank, or lock up, or reboot after 3 or 4 button pushes on any screen. Acool was very helpful in getting me back to version 2.2 which initially seemed stable. But after starting the truck the next day I got an 'updates completed' msg and things were once again unstable, yet the software version shows version 2.2.
All of this headache started with the installation of version 3.0, and I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the sequence they are loaded in? Is there some sort of file corruption that is being caused by one of the tarballs loading something out of sequence and a pre-requisite file might not be there yet?
This is the sequence that the autoinstall is routine is following;
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THA
Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TCB
Item3 = JR3T-14G391-CD
Item4 = JR3T-14G381-AM
Item5 = JR3T-14G423-CA
Item6 = HB5T-14G387-AAB
Item7 = GB5T-14G386-AB
First off, can someone shed some light on what each one of these tarballs is installing? Second, based on what you guys know about them, does this sequence seem logical or should they be re-ordered? Is some sort of corruption happening based on loading sequence? Should the load be broken up into 2 or more parts?

I do not have any definite information on the Sync software, but I would assume they need to be installed in the order contained in the autoinstall pacakage. You might try taking it back one version again, and reinstalling the update, to see if there might have been a file corruption on the previous update.
