I have successfully upgraded to Sync 3 3.0 version and got past the MEM_ERR_03 screen.

A lot of posts and confusion on what to do, so I hope this helps and I am adding to the pool of knowledge here and not just pissing in it!

This description assumes you have been though some iterations of this ordeal an are looking for the final answer at the end of this thread.

I edited the autoinstall.lst from the downloaded upgrade files from the Ford Owners site and loaded the file to the Radio which got me to the"Lean" version of 2.2.

; Prep for installing full package without MEM_ERR03

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = GB5T-14G386-SC
Open1 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
Item2 = JR3T-14G391-BD
Open2 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BD.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay

Then I loaded the original files from the Ford Owners site using the original autoinstall file to the radio.

; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.13 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.18025_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THA
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-THA.tar.gz
Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TBB
Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TBB.tar.gz
Item3 = GB5T-14G386-SC
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-SC.tar.gz
Item4 = JR3T-14G391-BD
Open4 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BD.tar.gz
Item5 = JR3T-14G381-AL
Open5 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G381-AL.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = JR3T-14G423-BA
Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G423-BA.tar.gz
Item2 = GB5T-14G386-AA
Open2 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AA.tar.gz
Options = Delay,Include,Transaction

Now if I can only get WAZE to work!

Many KUDO's to ACOOL

Please reference the files the autoinstall.lst is installing and make sure you edit the autoinstall.lst (if you need to) using notepad to the name of the files you are installing in your SyncMyRide folder.

Below are the files in my SyncMyRide Folder

When I say I've had better luck, let me clarify: I've looked directly at read speeds on the APIM. The APIMs are for some reason very temperamental. Sometimes a USB will read well at 10-20mb/s. Other times it will drop to ~100k/s or even less. Sometimes a reboot fixes the issue. I've noticed these issues more when I have an exFAT formatted usb. When you hear about people posting that their APIM has been stuck at UPDATING SYSTEM SOFTWARE for the last hour+, it's probably because the APIM decided to read that USB stick at a 100k/s.
So its better to format the usb drive to FAT32?

I tried to update with a USB formatted exFAT and got stuck at "updating system software" for 2+ hours. I gave up and pulled it out.

NAV APIM.

I upgraded to v3.0 from the ford website and it pretty much bricked my truck. I can't lock it. When I turn off truck and open the door, my tailgate pops open and continues to activate every 5 seconds. Emergency flashers come on and when I go to turn them off, the horn honks.

After a day of getting pissed off at that I now just assume it is a bug. It does not look like an update to anything. Ford even made a typo in one of their own recently published auto install scripts. I put that file directly into the usb install and overlaid the one Ford included in their package. Even though I know my Sync unit has that file installed it keeps on trying to download it. My solution was turning off Sync wifi which I normally do anyway after I kill the wifi prompt.

On that note, thank god I dont get the stupid wifi prompt upon ignition startup. It seems that if you 'scan for updates' just once after installing that file via USB you re fine and it kills the wifi prompt along with updating the 'last scanned for updates' date, but if you scan updates again after that, the file tries to download and install itself again.

I say it is a bug.

My solution = Wifi off. Scan for updates once to kill the wifi prompt and never go near the scan for updates button again.

I hope that Ford gives up on Sync. It has a long track record of being terrible.

Yeah I would use FAT32 ... and also consider formatting with a larger than default byte size, IIRC I had success with 1024k.

It's all relative. Judge people on what they are good at. Not everyone is tech savvy and comfortable doing what may seem like the most basic technical trouble shooting on a large financial investment.

I'm hoping this is an April Fool's joke .... Not sure how any of that could be related unless you also ran your truck into a lake while upgrading to 3.0. If it's not, I would disconnect and charge your battery, then reconnect. If your battery ran low while installing you can essentially crash the other modules bc of low voltage. Some modules won't recover unless rebooted with a cold reset power cycle ....
