Sounds like the Canadians have some interesting insurance policies.

I agree with you on the GAP insurance.

Totally worth the extra cost and I have it on my 2016 Lariat.

A few thoughts on insurance companies and totaled vehicles. My 13 STX was purchased in Feb 13 and totaled in Dec 15 with 47k miles on it when ir was hit head on by a 17 year old kid in a Buick. I had no fault insurance, no gap or replacement clause in policy. When deciding to total/fix the adjuster told me they need repair to exceed 75% of vehicle value to total. Mine was close to that but they also estimate salvage value of truck in the calculations. Also when air bags are deployed, all in use seat belts lock permanently and must be replaced.
I paid 28,100 in Feb 13 and settled with insurance foe 26,885 in Dec 15. $1215 for two years and 47k! More important than all this was my wife and I walked away from the crash. We now take the new truck almost everywhere we go- the truck had 21kput on it in the last year - her Edge racked up about 3,500 miles last year.

When I was first asked if I wanted this, I was thinking it was unnecessary, then when they explained that if I get into a wreck and it gets totaled, insurance will not cover the entire cost of the loan, it will just cover market value, and I always thought, I would never have a wreck, too good a driver. Then I decided, well, if I do wreck this car, I put no money down, and it would not be fully covered, so thought, why not, $800 is only a $1 a month so added it. Boy was I glad I did, or I would still be paying off the Flex. Now every vehicle I buy new, or will be upside down from the start I add it. So glad I added it with the 14 F150 because I was $19K in the hole on that one after insurance totaled it. I have always been pretty good about keeping value in a vehicle when I buy, but circumstances changed and I was forced to do something I hadn't planned on which put me in a hole. So glad I opted for the Gap.

Which reminds me, I still need the insurance company to send me a copy of the paperwork to forward to GAP.

All in use seatbelt lock permanently when the air bags go off? How do you get out of the vehicle if that's true?

Sounds like Canada has interesting clauses you can add.

But I'll second the GAP insurance. Normally I tell people no when they start trying to add extended warranties and such, but the GAP insurance was an instant yes. Thankfully I've never been in a major accident, but I'd rather not have my first and have to continue paying on a truck I no longer have.

Glad everything is working out OP! And man, that truck took the hit phenomenally.

Did you ever see for yourself the damage that was behind the doors once they got it open? My truck wasn't hit as hard as your but the damage seems to be hidden behind the doors. Insurance told me there's structural damage now its a fight for a write off.
