Default Replacement Key

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has lost a key and didnt get a replacement from the ford dealership?
There is no way I will pay them 189$ plus tax plus programming (which I am sure I can youtube) for an extra key if I can help it!

I was hoping the dealership would make me a deal since I do all my maintenance there. In case they dont does anyone have any idea where you can get a replacement? Ebay etc?

I saw those ones too, but the only thing is those dont have the key to start the truck. I think those are just the for the push to start trucks?

There are a couple like this on ebay for $65-$70...

Not sure what key fob you have, but that is the same as my XL's without remote start or anything.

You'll have to have the key cut which might be a challenge. I got a GM key done a few years ago that I bought off ebay, and it was only a "smart key" (not attached to the fob). Big box hardware stores couldn't do it, because the new key systems are all cartridge based or something and the blank wouldn't fit any of them. I had to go to one of those old school neighborhood hardware stores and have a guy do it there.

I hate to be the one to tell you but you will have to go to the dealer unless you have two working keys. To get the truck into learning mode you need two working keys. Without that the dealer has to reprogram your computer to accept any new keys.

In addition the dealer is likely the only place that can cut the keys. I recently purchased a third key fob and programmed it. I then wanted to get the backup key cut. My selling dealer did not have the new machine required to do this. I had to go to a larger volume dealer to get it cut.

So it seems purchasing a spare key or two, having them cut and programming them while you still have the 2 factory keys could save money down the road.

I would stay away from the dealer for keys and goto a local lock smith. They usually are 1/3 of the price of the dealer. Yes you can get keys on ebay nd still have a local lock smith program it for you. I got an extra smart keyfob on ebay for $40 and them programmed it myself, but I had my other two original keys.
