10 ply tires have greater puncture resistance and higher capacity for heavy towing/hauling. Without question.
That being said, it's a trade off. I live in a rural area in the Appalachian mountains, but we still have these things called roads. Many are dirt, but they are roads. I've not had a puncture even with the little tires on my Honda Fit. Now, I wouldn't take it rock crawling, but it's not lost a tire on these dirt/gravel roads.
So, if you are rock crawling or truly off roading, go with the LT's. The worse fuel economy, worse on road handling, and worse braking distance will be worth it because you will have a stronger tire when off road.
In reality, I think most end up with LT's on their F150's because of size choice. There aren't a lot of options in P series tires in larger sizes. I think there's probably room in the market for someone to develop lighter, but stronger tires in larger sizes. Putting a 70lb tire on an F150 with stock brakes just isn't a smart move if you are mostly street driving around other vehicles. The stopping distance will not be pretty with the relatively small brakes combined with a near 100lb wheel tire combo.
Even my tire choice made a noticeable difference in the wrong direction when it comes to on road manners.
Agreed, I debated on LT or P for a while, ultimately size is what made me go with LT... I expected much worse after reading comments by the LTs don’t feel a lot heavier, and my MPGs are still pretty good didn’t lose much but again that depends on your driving habits. If I was driving highways consistently I would’ve gone P

That's good to know in case I end up with LT's at some point! Much better tire size options! It would be nice to see someone make some C and D load range LT's just to take some weight out of them.
i know the LT's have a stiffer sidewall than the p-rated tires. however, in my case I'm going from an aspect ratio of 55% to 65%, should be enough to offset the stiffer sidewall. also, in all honesty, is it going to be really possible when doing tires and bilsteins to know which may be causing the more-firm ride?

The Bilstein's mostly firmed up the suspension action. Didn't make it ride rougher...actually made it ride smoother since it handles the bumps better. I installed the struts/shocks at home and then drove to the tire shop so I got a bit of time to experience stock tires with Bilstein's.
I think the Bilsteins will help control the extra weight of the tires though.
Got this 2 inch leveling kit installed today by Barnett Tire in Leesburg Florida. A family owned shop that does great work and half the price of other local shops. Kit cost $70 on Amazon and install was $250 including front end alignment.
First Impression rides & drives great pretty much like stock can't really tell any difference between stock and leveled.
If you live in Florida I've attached a link to Barnett Tire. I've used them for tires and leveling kits in the past and they always have the best prices and quality workmanship.
Better pictures tomorrow - this is at the shop, zone 2" level lift on my 13 - stock 20 rims - Dick Cepek Trail Country EXP - 275/65/20
Still posting with the wrong generation trucks because I started here when I thought I had a 2015
